    GOOD POST.
but i disagree with the comparison gif's of the marriquin hook

the only reason he hit rigo with that hook was because rigo was showboating with footwork and was completely careless.
in donaires case he was focused on not getting hit.

Excellent job, even better considering you started boxing 3 years ago.

Nonito isn't naturally timid, so frustrated is a better word, I agree with you there.

In terms of Rigo frustrating Nonito, I think that Donaire at heart still tries to hit and not get hit as efficiently as possible. Instead of eating the right jab that kept checking him to land his own shot, he'd hesitate at any feint Rigo threw. I think Rigo's power was making him too worried about getting hit and not giving him time to think of a proper attack. No matter how good your chin is, you're going to stop throwing shots that make you pay with hard counters repeatedly.

Thanks for reading and contributing man :thumbsup

Looks like Andre Ward and I think alike:

(Ward): "I think if anything, in a perfect world, 'Nito could have stopped headhunting so much and shot at his chest because Rigo's getting real low, he would have ran into the shots".

    Donaire commenting on his shortcomings:

"It’s hard to lead when you’re both counterpunchers. I was headhunting, and I kind of fell in love with knocking him out because I wanted to give the fans that so bad. I’m going to learn from this fight, go over it with my team, and I’m going to come back a better and stronger fighter.”

I posted them to show the difference in approach of the opponent, I don't think Rigo was showboating, he simply didn't see it coming as he was focused on the right to the body which brought Marroquin to the inside. Rigo couldn't lean out because Marroquin successfully closed the distance.

    Thanks :thumbsup

i see what your saying, but rigo had just finished doing a ali shuffle type of move in the corner,..so he could of got out with his footwork,
but decided to stay in the corner and do a shuffle which caused the punch to land more then his opponent forced him into the corner.

Ward is a very intelligent fighter.

I haven't re-watched the fight but I thought Donaire did a decent job cutting off the ring at certain points. He just could not get off against Rigo, especially not one shot at a time. Would have been nice to see Donaire shoot the jab at Rigo's chest. Double it, feint, throw it off rhythm, and vary it but never just abandon it.

This exactly was part of the problem. You have one fighter who is aware that he is performing for a paying audience who want to see KO's against another fighter who is primarily just trying to win.

If Donaire just concentrated on boxing instead of looking for the highlight KO, it would have been a much closer contest.

    What i think also.
    BTW nice breakdown Bogo.
One of Donaire's bigger mistakes was seeking the KO and his inability to adjust when it became far too obvious he wasn't landing the big shots.
He has a bad habit of seeking and destroying. In most rounds he was usually the first one to land, but when he did land, he felt like he needed to keep landing and it gave Rigondeaux the chance to counter and take the round with a far cleaner shot on the overexcited Donaire who would stick around for far too long. For e.g, from memory, in round 4(i think it was) the round is fairly even the first somewhat 2 minutes, i felt Donaire was winning up till they get into the exchange where Donaire lands a big counter left hook over Rigondeaux's jab. Now if Donaire wasn't so fixated on a KO, he'd have stepped back after that shot to properly analyze Rigondeaux's condition and see he wasn't hurt and could have clearly taken that round, and people have to realise Rigondeaux also missed a good few, Donaire is a guy that if he really doesn't want to get hit can be as slick as any other man, also an aggressive Rigondeaux gives him a better chance for that KO. But he instead goes into that seek and destroy mode and gets clocked hard to the head and to the body as he is coming in stupid and loses the round to me because of it. It's a bad habit he's got, he did the same vs Nishioka when he knocked him down, threw away defence, went into terminator mode and took a hefty number of strong lefts from Nishioka, who i think had landed next to nothing before that point.

Should have taken a page from Rigondeaux/Mayweather, these guys will catch you big, but they wont get careless, they'll fall right into back into defence unless they see you are clearly hurt.
Rd6 another round, halfway through Rigondeaux took Donaire's place as the aggressor now giving Donaire more openings and Donaire took it, with another left hook, but stood there thinking "is this it is this it? is he hurt?" looking like a statue instead of going straight back to defence and got whacked by huge left hand.

Good post, Donaire would have benefited from hanging back a bit and making his own defense a priority. He'd have more of a chance letting the KO come to him.

I'm still stumped why he mindlessly chased Rigo and not force the other guy to commit and be aggressive.

It would've opened the opportunities for him,.

    good read,:happy

donaire need to throw to the body . . . Jabs to the body would have been very effective. he would have slowed rigo down going into the late rounds and he would have had a shot. I think it was around the third round that I thought it was helpless for donaire.

you said that Rigo jab was lazy and basically a liability. his jab did a few different things. first, it was a range finder. second, it was a distraction. third, it was a check for the left hook if donaire decided to throw it. the amazing thing is while watching the fight I was looking for even minor flaws in Rigo's game and the only thing he did was raise his arms up to his sides a couple of times and a little showboating . . . it was a masterful performance.

Nonito doesn't have an inside game or knows how to pressure. Like you said, the blueprint was seen in the Narvaez, Mathebula, Vasquez jnr fights. So i didn't think this fight with Rungundeaux would be different to those fights. A moving target like RIgo with a solid fast counter punch is hardest to combat.

Floyd, Marquez and I don't think Rigo is in this class nonehtless he has the same style. And you press these boxerers. Something bad is bound to happen. That's why Donaire didn't go crazy like Manny.Which in my opinion is smart. If he pressured it would have played into Rungondeaux hands.

Donaire had to do something he can't, pressure. Rigo is comfortable being a counter puncher. This is why Donaire looked lost. I mean someone had to come forward. It wasn't rungondeaux. Slick boxer are runners by nature.

He sometimes brings it back low, and he did get caught a small handful of times, that's just inherent in having a low lead hand. But it's a very educated right jab, it did so much for him, good points. I'll also say that a normal thing for Rigo to do is lift his right elbow to parry the jab, not something I see from most philly shellesque-style users.
