Ward has been stripped of his WBC belt.

    I'm so confused.

Ward gets stripped of his WBC belt that he defended 7 months ago in which time a fight he had planned to defend it fell through firstly because of injury and then because of his opponent's retirement? But Mayweather gets to keep his WBC belt during a period of 19 months where it wasn't defended?

There's absolutely no criticism of Mayweather here. It's the organisation making these decisions not him. But WTF?

Ward seems to have taken it graciously enough "belts don’t make the fighter, the fighter makes the belts" but are there any consistent rules on how the stripping of belts works or is it just pretty much discretionary?

    favoritism :deal

Floyd can fight who he wants, and even the opponents are placed on the right spot in the top10 (you can be sure he fights undeserving Khan next if he doesn't get upset by Diaz).
Canelo can fight who he wants, and so could JCC jr for a while...

WBC overheard on the grapewine that Ward wants to feast on 160lb scrapheap in Jokeland.

First it was a middle aged inactive drunk in Pavlik and then it was going to be a fat 160lb plodder.
A plodder who go humiliated for 10rds in his last fight and who's training camp consists of smoking weed and decided to tell Ward to stuff it.

    Not with our belt son.

He was stripped because of the injury lay offs, nothing more.

He was given a special dispensation too meaning he's entitled to a shot at whoever's holding the belt as soon as he's ready, basically. That's not done too often.

He's STILL Champion, they are just calling him emeritus. Basically, he's getting an indefinite rest to recover, but in the meantime, if he never comes back to 168, a new titlist will have been installed.

The WBC asked Ward for a timeline for his recovery, and the Ward camp didnt want to speculate. In this instance, as in Vitali Klitschkos yrs back, they decided rather than wait and wait and wait for an injury to clear up, they'd simply create a new titlist whom Ward will have to fight if he wants that title back.:think

Basically he fought one joke fight in one so if there were no other similar cases it would be fair. Problem is the Mayweather issue as people highlighted so it's a confusing one

The politics with Governing bodies is a joke. However to be fair to Floyd he has been flying the flag for the WBC from the age of 21 when he won his first World title, he has won about 20 WBC belts since. I rate Ward, he is a top boxer but a bit tired of the nuthuggers, how long has he been World champ?? Floyd has been a World Champ (WBC)for pretty much not long after he turned pro. Love him or hate him he is the truth.

To be fair the Dawson fight lacked credibility. Lets see Ward go up and fight Dawson at light heavyweight and see what would happen.

Mayweather brings in the bucks - Sulaiman will do anything to keep Mayweather with the WBC. Mayweather can fight who he wants and that belt won't be stripped from him, Ward doesn't bring in money.

It's one rule for one and another rule for another. Anyone who thinks Khan being installed as the WBC #2 contender has nothing to with Al Haymon/Mayweather/GBP is delluded...

That's harsh. Don't forget Dawson called out Ward. If Dawson is still relevant when Ward moves up then we might expect to see a rematch but to say it lacked credibility...It was one of the most anticipated fights of 2012.

At the time the fight was made eyebrows were raised due to the fact that Dawson had no 168 pedigree. However, it was still seen as one of Ward's better fights. At the weigh in though, when we all saw the zombie Dawson was the fight lost most of it's credibility. Partner in the facts that he got sparked by Miranda in training, and sucked the juice from a grapefruit the night before as his only nutrition, the fight became a joke. Not Ward's fault, Dawson probably believed he could make 168 but couldn't thus the fight has little to no credibility once weighed up with all the facts
