Rigo's heavy hands are what dictated the fight.

Everytime he landed it seemed to make an impact. The shots were just so sharp and well placed. Broke his face up, hurt him to the body on multiple occasions.

Donaire was frightened to attack. Ironically, when he got Rigo going backwards and then threw, he had his best success of the fight. Too often, he'd just throw, put Rigo on the defensive, and then stop and stalk some more. One or two at a time.

Donaire has the physical tools to beat a boxer like Rigo, but not the smarts.

Mares might do a good bit better than Donaire, because he WILL attack- It's who he is. He might be uncomfortable, but he won't settle, and he doesn't look for one at a time. He also works over the body and throws a ton of low blows. If he can establish that downstairs game with any consistency, he'll make Rigo feel some pain.

That said, Rigo is too disciplined, hits too sharply, and is too comfortable and proficient on the counter. Mares will walk into shots all night.

He'll do more damage and give Rigo a better argument than Donaire, but it might get him stopped.

Styles. Donaire is the most gifted fighter alive in terms of athleticism, and he has hair-trigger quick instincts on the counter punch.

Rigo is an expert, a guy who has been molded his entire life to fight at a high level. Mares is much more a fighter, and that style just isn't a good call against a guy like Donaire. See the more skilled, very powerful, and aggressive Montiel, Vasquez, etc.

I got the feeling that even if Donaire had been able to assert himself more it might of been worse for him. With a puncher like Donaire though in a shoot out who knows.

Agree with everyone that Mares would be jumping into a wood chipper against Nonito, especially as there is too much method to his work. Nonito will see the patterns and time him.

A Moon-style madman on the other hand, might suit the best chance of negating Donaire's timing with offence. Still not the kinda' fighter I'd want in there with Nonito though.

in the process of watching John v Marquez.

Have it even after round 6 and is just more as a reminder to me than anything else cos I am about to start a poker game so can't watch it for a bit now.

John is a crafty fighter, not amazingly quick hands or feet but pretty nippy, always seems fragile to me though. When Marquez lets his hands go he wins rounds, but when the pace slows John is obviously getting the benefit of it cps he's quick enough to land a jab or 2 body shots then get out of range.

So I've seen JMM get damn near steamrooled at feather and now I'm seeing him get outboxed at times by a ,man not highly regarded.

Why did I class JMM a h2h monster at fw again?

Why would I want to? It means nothing in the grand scheme of things, I learned all I needed to just by watching it.

Drab stuff. Not an injustice. Starling-Breland II was pitiful but it needed re-scoring nahmsayin'?

True but I've seen it, and have no want to. Doubt I'll ever watch it ever again in my entire life.
