Would Jimmy Young have any sort of a chance against a peak Tyson?

I think that Young would have beaten the Tokyo Tyson.

    Lets start with that.

Young had a short prime from 1974 to 1977 but part of that was because of his diapointment with the Norton fight and his abandonment of training after Norton. As far as Shavers the first loss to Shavers was to a 42-2 fighter when Young had a 7-3 record, Shavers KO 3. In the rematch Young was still only 13-4-1 to Shavers 46-4 but most felt Jimmy was on the short end of the Draw. I do feel a Jimmy Young of the time frame of 74-77 would be able to stay the distance with Tyson but I do not think Tyson suffered from the severe lack of stamina that Foreman did in his early career. I think a lot of Young as a spoiler, he was not in the class of an older JJ Walcott in my opinion because of Jimmy's lack of power but Jimmy knew how to HIDE in the ring and flurried sporatically with not quite the legs of Walcott or a Quick Tillis (who only had legs) Jimmy covered up well and had pin point punching ability but very little power. I think Young could last the distance but do not see him having the offensive tools to beat Tyson. Tyson UD Young

Yeah, because of his experience, he would have enough to survive Mike, barely, but he would.

Any version of Tyson from 1986 - '91 would beat him.
With the various post-prison versions it becomes more debatable.

I can't write off Young's chances of messing his way to see the final bell by climbing out of the ring or spinning Tyson by the jockstrap, as much as I'd like a cast-in-stone guarantee that we wouldn't have to witness that kind of stench, it remains a diSTINKt possibility.

A prime Young could beat only the post prison Tyson.

Nope. No chance against a Prime Mike. Tyson stops him on his feet. Young lasts and looks good for a few rounds. Tyson destroyed people like this. Young has absolutely no power to keep tyson honest. Maybe if he had more pop. I can see Young landing a few shots then clinching Tyson. Probably a Tillis-esque result.

Jimmy Young could make guys who tried to ''box'' him look bad but a guy like Tyson or Frazier would beat him, Frazier would definatley beat him i'd bet anything on that.

Young would give him trouble with his savvy and his style, but I don't think he works enough to win, nor does he hit hard enough to make what work he does do really count.

    Tyson would soundly outwork him.

He wouldn't box Young like Shavers, Lyle, Foreman etc etc (Foreman would have knocked him out if he hadn't have tried to prove something by trying to out box him and did have him hurt but didn't capitalize on it)
Tyson would win, i mean KO TKO decision any of those because he wouldnt stand up and box him he would be constantly moving forward slipping the little amount of punches Young threw and would be landing more punches.
