What if neither boxer engaged...What do the rules say?

I was wondering particularly after watching the donaire v rigondeux fight last sunday about what the rules are in relation to if neither boxer was to come forward in a fight? Ive seen fights before where neither boxer has engaged for while and then the ref has urged them to box and come forward however im interested in knowing the official rules about what the ref can do if neither fighter decides to come forward and they just go back to their own corners and stand there the whole round...what can the ref do in that situation and who would win the round??? Thank god for come forward boxers who risk bieng counter punched to please the fans!! god bless!!

 

Agree - there is a snobbery, real or otherwise, with overly defensive fighters, to me a defensive fighter has to win a round more clearly. If a round is very close the aggressor should always get the benefit of the doubt

what fight was it, where the ref at to intergect and get them to throw.

It sounds farmiliar but i don't remember.

Cant remember exactly but i think it was a haye fight

 

It does sound like the 1st round of the Haye v Harrison fight.

 

Personally I feel that it takes 2 to tango and one boxer should not feel that it is purely the other boxers responsibility to chase him and make the fight and instead should take some of the resposibility to please the fight fans who pay their wages!!

 

Can be "thrown out" and declared a no contest I think. Used to happen a bit in "the olden days"

The fight people here are thinking of is Chris Byrd vs Touch of sleep Williamson. Midway through the sixth round, the lack of action prompted the referee Vic Drakulich to call time and command the fighters to pick up the pace

 

Holman Williams/Charley Burley was actually declared a NC because of inactivity.

 

this is the sweet science my boy. it is the art of hitting someone and dont get hit back. rigo is a far superior fighter than donaire.

 

This. You can't ref a fight if no ones fighting. Plus the crowd would go ape****.

 

I dont doubt this im simply questioning the approach he took in that particular fight
