    Andre Ward vs Shelby Pudwill

Ward basically turned to the ref and said- will you cut this poor guy a break, and the ref ended it on his demand.

Holmes vs. Ali and Marvis Frazier already mentioned, but I believe he also waved the ref to come in and stop it in the second Shavers fight

A bit of an aside --

It's always interesting when the guy pleading for the ref to stop it, then just wallops the other guy. It's almost like they have to prove it -- Ali - Frazier (again) comes to mind.

BoB Fitz against John Edward Kelly,

Fitz asked the ref to stop it several times according to witnesses and also asked Kelly repeatedly not to get back up. Kelly doggedly continued to rise long after the outcome was a foregone conclusion. One account gives 13 rounds and 18 knockdowns. After the fight Fitz and Kelly were close friends until Kelly died of tuberculosis aged 33.

hugo Corro vs Vito Antuofermio (as Hagler calls him)...anyway,Hugo pleaded with the ref to stop it...not because he was hurting Vito,he just didn't feellike fighting, thats all. So Hugo didn't let the ref's intransience get him down...he just simply stopped fighting for the last 8 of 9 rounds.

I saw Jorge Paez ask a referee to stop a fight in the first round, before he threw any punches. He was fighting at the Inglewood Forum and his opponent was an undefeated 18 year old from Kentucky, 16-0 or something like that. The bell rang, they moved around for a few seconds and Paez told the ref, in essence, that the opponent didn't belong in the ring with him, to stop the fight.
When the referee refused, Paez moved in, landed a punch that backed his opponent into a corner and threw a flurry of punches, all the while asking the ref to stop the fight.

It made it the loss worse for Marvis. Not only was he hurt by Holmes early Holme is asking the ref to stop it as he lands right hands.

Freddie Mills did twice that I'm aware of, first when McAvoy twisted and injured his back, and much later when Kan Shaw's lip got severly gut by one of Freddie's 'clubbing' rights.
