Jack, when you say they're not far apart in terms of achievement I think you're right, but IMO Kells best opponents are Jones and Hatton, and he only just warrants a shot.Lee has beaten nobody to deserve one. This is a world eliminator were discussing, not a British or European. Why doesn't Kell now go for the Euro proper? What I think they'll do now is go for a world fight,in Sheffield, against an easier opponent than Alexander.Plenty of them around, but
    Purdy IMO definitely not viable.

I think Purdy would have a good shot of beating Brook IMO. You can talk about Lynes, Vassel, McDonagh etc.... But, Purdy has come on leaps and bounds in the last 2 years or so. I honestly think he'll give Brook a lot tougher fight than Matty Hatton did

So because Rob says Purdy is 4 with the IBF and he could be fighting Brook, everyone seems to automatically believe it :huh Purdy won the IBF inter-whatever against that Argie last year, thats why he's ranked so high.

Save your criticism until there is a source.

How bad is brooks injury? This would be a joke if its made. Surely brook has to fight a world class opponent next.

The rumour was that Matchroom had booked the Sheffield Arena for September no matter what happened in May, wouldn't surprise me if Lee Purdy (4) fought Kell Brook (1) for a mandatory spot and the winner fought Alexander in January (9 month mandatory time window)

Broken 4th metatarsal so out for 3 weeks total rest according to Hearn, could be longer though if you think about how long footballers are out with the same injury although obv their sport is more demanding on the feet!

He needs to beat an international opponent he'll get no kudos for beating Purdy and it's pretty pathetic that he is anywhere near the top 5 in the IBF rankings.

Considering Brook has been out of action for so long. If the Alexander does finally fall through is Purdy such a bad fight?

Brook should have just manned up and faced Alexander. If Froch can fight with a busted ear drum and fractured rib, why cant Kell box with a broken metatarsal??? Normally id be dead against this sort of thing, but given the circumstances I really think he should have gone through with it.

I don't think fighting with a messed up foot just to stay active is a good idea tbh.

If he went and damaged it further it could have repercussions for his later career and you need the spring in your feet to launch your shots properly and for side to side movement especially against a slippery customer in Alexander.

Hearn said he wouldn't be able to do anything for 3 weeks so he would be starving himself to make the weight and have no sparring, it's awful prep for the biggest fight of his career.

It's hard to gauge how the injury has actually affected him only he really knows the extent of it so there's no real indicator of how much it's prohibiting him. All I would say is that it's not just a mild strain or something that will go away easily and he can live to fight another day this way.

  11. Spot on. I can't understand people saying Hearn has mismanaged Brook at all. the guy's simply been desperately unlucky.

It's the sort of fight ****** would make, an in house fight that will make money, but is a complete mismatch. Purdy is a long way from being number 2 in Britain.

    1. Brook
    2. Gavin
    3. Vassell
    4. Hatton
    5. Purdy

what are you talking about? I never made any claim that this fight was happening, just that it looks like a real possibility. Seems everyone but you figured that out as well.

Purdy against any of the other names on that list makes sense but not Brook.

    Agree with this.

Think we will see Brook out again in July before 2 meaningful fights before the end of the year.
