Cal was a good fighter, but Ward would beat him up pretty good.

Calzaghe was dropped...but he moved up in weight so was expected...especially as he was at the end of his career.....hopkins is still winning today

 

They have not.

Only Ward has a case for having "surpassed" Calzaghe's legacy, and if he has done so then it is only by the narrowest of margins not "3 times over".

Froch is a warrior who has fought pretty much everyone he possibly could, but he lost to the two best fighters he's fought in Kessler and Ward. He gets a hell of a lot of respect for taking all the big fights but that's about it.

Calzaghe and Ward are top five all time great Super Middleweights, Froch is a top ten.

Though, of course, given your history of Calzaghe-hatred and Calzaghe-bashing I expect that writing this reply has been a complete waste of time.

I am no Calzaghe lover, but his hatred is a bit too far to be reasoned with. Ward just isn't quite there yet IMO.

 

How was he past prime? He's still active. If he beats Froch again his prime is now. Youth isn't prime.

 

Good point.. Sometimes a fighter gets better after a couple losses. Undefeated doesn't always mean everything. Most Calzaghe fans make Kessler out to be some mythical beast when Calzaghe beat him, but an ER patient when he fought Ward.

Kessler is a good fighter... Ultimately, he has lost to the best 2 fighters he has fought.

 

Joe Calzaghe was at his best at 34 IMO. Bernard Hopkins was too.

Hopkins turned pro weighing inside the CW limit, so maybe there he was not suited for that weight (CW), but at LHW he has on 3 occassions beaten an active LHW world. Hopkins was 2-0 in LHW title fights when Calzaghe beat him, which is far more pedigree at the weight than Calzaghe. Calzaghe beat Hopkins sandwiched between Hopkins best wins of Tarver, Wright and Pavlik

Razor thin decision for Calzaghe for me,i'm a massive Ward fan but i've yet to see him prove he could out hustle a hustler. He would be completely depressed half way through the fight when his headbutts aren't coming off and he's been punched in the face 40 times in ten seconds in the process.
