Curious - much warmer reception for Mijares.

Neither is from Mexico City. Both are from different states. (Terrazas from Jalisco - the home of Mariachi music - and Mijares from Durango)

Terrazas most recently labored to a SD in an eight-rounder with teak-tough journeyman (with maybe the best p4p chin in boxing) Johnny Ruiz.

Round 1

Mijares is jabbing Terrazas and turning him. Terrazas is floating his left jab in search of Mijares. Careful distance maintained by Mijares, putting in the jab and occasional 1-2 to keep Terrazas guessing. They collapse into a clinch and Mijares works his free hand underneath into Terrazas' side. Nice accuracy by Mijares reaching in with the right jab. Terrazas puts out a throwaway jab and falls in with a right hand stuffed into Mijares' midsection. Jabs and waved-arm parries by Mijares at short range.

I've seen El Diamante look sharper (even recently, during this comeback) but he is doing alright.

Terrazas is acquitting himself well, however. He got at least one flush head snapping jab in.

 

This is for the vacant WBC super bantamweight title.

Round 2

Terrazas is doubling his jab and penetrating Mijares' guard. His right cross falls short. Mijares circles with a buffer of a yard between them and paws with the right jab. Slick moves on the outside by Mijares, ducking and weaving to either side as Terrazas lunges with left jabs. Mijares pushes Terrazas across the Tecate logo with left and right hooks, ducking after each flurry but keeping his eyes up and never losing sight of Terrazas.

Round 3

Flush right hand by Terrazas. Mijares nods in patronizing approval as he springs off the ropes. Terrazas is pressing in, waiting for Mijares to finish tossing out right jabs, and rushing in with the 1-2, catching Mijares. Terrazas is keeping the pressure on as Mijares looks to hold ground with the accurate jab. Terrazas walks through jabs and lands his own, pushing Mijares' face back.

Terrazas is jabbing in on the southpaw. Head clash. Both are instructed to watch it. Time in. Terrazas is flicking left jabs and putting in rights to the chest. Mijares waits on the outside, throwing a right jab stepping in and putting quick bursts in after it, lefts to the body and right hooks up top. Counter 1-2s by Terrazas, scoring to head and body even as Mijares shimmies in front of him in attempts to slip them. Mijares rolls his right shoulder and thrusts a quick jab. Mijares successfully weaves in past some Terrazas jabs and peppers him with light stabs.
