Eddie Hearn Needs To Change His Strategy

I don't understand the hate Eddie is getting at the minute, putting on competitive cards is all of a sudden a bad thing? Fair enough it wasn't exciting but apart from Selby and the prospects. Rose/Alcine, Cardle/Hughes and Askin/Clarke were all competitive fights.

The best you can do as a promoter is deliver a competitive card and hope for it to be exciting, decent show IMO.

 

This, so many people have short memorys,There was about 8 live fights if you include the red button which people have been crying out for years.Every so often there would be a good fight on the old ffn format but most of the time it wasn`t good enough,next season is time to judge but he`s building up his stable nicely.The main event was a step up for his fighter certanly better much then the Rose-Maxwell(I know Rose wanted that fight) show little frank put on last year and his prospects looked good except Stalker is missing something and I don`t think will go too far.The Fury fight was always going to be the most fun fight invoving a brit last night

 

Eddie Hearn has done fantastically well signing all the fighters he has. He is in my view a very good promoter.

However, he has a very difficult job in keeping his stable of fighters happy and what makes the job even more difficult is he has to keep a big stable happy with not only the frequency they fight but a lot of those fighters will want top billing - does Hearns budget and contract with Sky cater for that.

Another factor people on here keep forgetting is boxing is not as popular as they think and Sky will be looking into their viewing figures to see if it is worthwhile continuing pumping money into the sport if they do not achieve their targets.

Interesting times.

 

Casuals follow Purdy and Barker? Eddie is delivering big time for his fighters, Eddie got offered the Alexander fight with Purdy, he obviously asked Purdy if he wants it..when will Lee Purdy have ever got a fight of this magnitude? When will he have a payday like this? Or be broadcast on Showtime?

Brook has a good following, but what is wrong with going to America and fighting for a title? Absolutely nothing, it boosts they're profile, nice lump of money and a chance to win a title. That is how it used to work and rightfully so, Devon is thew champion so he defends at home.

Good promoting if you ask me.

 

I agree he will have to step it up,if in 12 months he is still producing shows like the London one I will be the first person to give him stick on here and not getting Barkers opponent announced untill 3 weeks before the fight was dissapionting and that was a poor show.

However with the signings he`s making I do believe the content will approve and the viewing figures will be decent but so far I would give him 6/10 for what he has produced since the new contract and he does need to step it up next year.To be honest the viewing figutes couldn`t get much worse then they were for the old ffn format(I know they were **** for the London card but I hope thats a blip) and he has got record figures for Brook and Froch in the past,we are 6 months in to a 2 year deal I will reserve judgement for another 12 months and hope that he gets it right

 

All of you are not taking one thing into consideration, Sky TV.

Will they continue to give Hearn the number of shows and the budget to keep all of his fighters happy.

If they dont it will mean more PPV shows.

 

Of course they will, Matchroom do something like 11% of the sports viewing on Sky.

 

Hopefully it will mean more of the live fight shown will be quality but in the future he will need more dates and less Prizefighters.Getting more dates is the ultimate aim and he will have to step it up to get it but his stable especialy if ha can get Joshua at some point is top notch and if Hearn can make the right fights that can generate interest he will hopefully get more dates.

 

Whether you, I or anyone else on here likes it or not boxing is not a popular sport except for the very biggest profile fights. Matchroom or not Sky wont simply pump money after money into something that wont get the vieiwing figures.

Hearn is under pressure and as a boxing fan I hope he smashes the viewing figures with the shows he puts on as it will be great for us fans.

My point is we are all taking things for granted and we shouldnt, Hearn simply has to produce.

Promoters shouldn't get criticised because of the type of fight it turns out to be. All a promoter can do is put on fights which, on paper, promise to be close and I thought he did that with last night's card. Sometimes close fights are great and sometimes they're dull, and unfortunately a few recent close fights on paper have turned out to be poor. Bellew/Chilemba was another, and Hearn received criticism for that too, which baffles me.

He doesn't have a crystal ball and he won't ever put on great fight after great fight. I'm sure he'd love to if he could because it'd make a brilliant product, but all he can do is book intriguing, close fights, and he's doing that.

I can't fault his matchmaking at all. I think he's delivering us close fights and should be praised for that.

 

It's simple wrestling booking. Play the strengths, hide the weaknesses. If you've got a star in the making, put him in different fights every time to see how he stylistically matches up with different fighters. While it's common they'll simply fight opponent by ranking, its not exactly the best thing because he's not getting a variety of all styles, it's just a way to shoot them up. From there, you'll see which type of fights and fighters make the most exciting, what type of opponents they can look good at or bad against, and whatever potential strengths and weaknesses your star has. If he's world class, he'll match up well against pretty much everyone, if he's not and he can't fight against say a boxer-puncher or a defensive counterpuncher and it wasn't at all entertaining to the crowd and nobody at home cares, avoid them and admit he's probably not gonna be a world beater.

The same goes for fighters he signs which have already been around for a while and scouted, a Gavin Rees and whatnot. A fighter like that will always be an entertaining brawling fighter if the opponent allows it and needs to be put in those type of fights where the other guy wants to try and boss him around. But say you've got Lee Purdy who's a fun fighter when the other guy stands there but is never gonna be any world beater, you give the fights that are entertaining and are not just gonna be him in a dull and drab affair against some yank because he's got a good ranking. Fighters can win world titles with anyone really caring anymore, it's not a big thing. Jamie McDonnell can win the world title in a couple of weeks and go from relative obscurity to vaguely known. It's a step up, but the Bruno program doesn't work for everyone, especially when the crowd couldn't give a **** who you are.

It's about getting your fighter around on multiple TV dates, getting them well known in their home town is a must, then go to local towns and build him in the region, then expand nationwide, then worldwide. If you've got someone like Skeete who's undefeated yes but is never gonna entertain anyone but his corner, he's the filler. Brian Rose has been on a good run recently, and he's not a bad fighter, but he's not main event attraction.

But Eddie is not doing bad. He's light years ahead of ******. ****** would never get away with his **** if he didn't have Boxnation. It's for purists only. At least Eddie's trying to expand.

 

Lee Selby is class.

 

I think he is implying that matchroom have the Darts, odd Snooker events etc that sky show, so with those as bargining power they should be able to continue with the boxing as they are now.

 

Very entertaining fighter. Can't wait to see him step up against an entertaining opponent. Punches like a ******* too. That 33% is gonna go up real fast.
