Eddie Hearn Needs To Change His Strategy

I agree that the promoters should try to make sure the shows don`t clash like last night.Eddie has worked with other promoters like Coldwell and Hatton and it will be interesting if he loses the Ryder-Saunders purse bid to see if he allows Ryder to fight on BN I think he will.I hope in the future he can make fights we want to see like Frampton-Quigg and Barker-Murrey then the sport on Sky will be fine because even recently if you put on big fights like that you will be rewarded with good viewing figures.

Eddie is doing alright. He's keeping his fighters active, at the moment he's got a lot of guys who are fighting at the ceiling of their ability (ie just shy of world level as with Gavin Rees) or prospects coming through paying their domestic and European dues.

I dont think PPV is ever going to take off for British boxing again, that dead horse was well and truly flogged by a certain fish eyed criminal who served up sub par fight cards and made the punters pay up to watch his marquee names fight inferior opposition. That being said his channel is the only way going forward that I can see people paying up anywhere around a tenner to watch a big fight.

The other thing he has done is thrown some competition out there so the other promoters, especially he who shant be named, to step their game up.

as for Prizefighter, it is what it is. It's fast food boxing, the format serves the purpose, at best you could make them 5 rounders probably but end of the day you dont go to Mcdonalds drive thru if you want a steak dinner.

When was *****'s last decent card? Can you name three decent card's he's put together in the last two years?

 

DO you think the **** bill was maybe down to the competition of channel 5. Fury on terrestrial was always going to **** on anything Hearn put on unless it was Froch (but then it would have been a waste because many people who would have the choice would have tuned in to watch Fury).

So maybe it was just a case of getting this date of the way, give it to small named fighters in his stable....

Obviously with the show being in Blackpool I can see why Hearn put him top of the bill, the place was packed with his people and supporters. However the kid is poor, i'm not going to disrespect him as he is a fighter and a brave man stepping in them ropes. But c'mon. Dude is vacating the title because Liam Smith is mandatory, he knows Smith will give him a beatdown.

 

To defend Hearn somewhat, and indeed, past promoters on Sky Sports, if they are only paying 80K or whatever for a show, well isn't there a limit to what a promoter can do?

This is a business right? They can't just throw money away. Sky these days doesn't pay anything like what HBO and Showtime pay. Probably not easy then to be bringing over American world champions for fights. You could say about Sky that they aren't going to pay the money if they aren't getting the viewers, but I suggest that boxing needs a more flexible TV deal. i.e. "If you can bring this American fighter over we will pay 500K for the event". Maybe that isn't realistic right now, and Sky just wouldn't want to back the sport in that kind of way.
