If Dawson could man up and move down in weight, why can't Alvarez?

Since Alvarez is calling out a small welterweight, why not follow Chad's example and go fight @ 147?

As for the thread; there is a reason why Chad Dawson and Oscar de la Hoya are so frequently brought up for returning to divisions after 4+ years. It doesn't happen very much, let alone on the world stage where both fighters bring something to the table.

 

Right, however the expectation is that Mayweather should give up 20+ pounds on fight night? That's insane. If Alvarez wants to fight a welterweight then he should move down to 147lbs. We have weight classes for a reason and asking a welterweight to fight a super middleweight makes no sense.

Dawson was 186 that night and i believe he was that most of his LHW bouts as well.
I thought if he walked around under 190 it meant he could drop some pounds without hurting his body so the dehydration would not be as heavy on his body.

Anyhow, just because Chavez Jr can drop up to 20 pounds and still be effective does not mean that every fighter can do it, especially smaller men. :-(

 

Dawson punch-resistance was shut to pieces by the weight loss. Ward isn't really a puncher.

Floyd either fights a bigger man or not... thats all there is to it. If he claims to be a champ at LMW then by all means he should fight Canlo.

It's the way it should work since Canelo is the one chasing Floyd. But Floyd won't get any credit if he wins since he would be accused of making a guy drop down in weight so he can be drained.

What about a rehydration clause? Don't see any issues with this. Canelo shouldn't go any higher than 160-165 which is about the biggest weight Floyd's ever faced.

I didn't know his fight night weight against Ward to be honest (so I really don't even understand your second statement, but I don't disagree with you or anything... nor was my post bitter if it sounded that way).

But yeah, as for JCC Jr, he's a freak like that but I think we all know how he does it (and he's been caught once before).

No one is beating someone like Canelo with ease. Canelo has speed, power, height and weight advantages. At one point size does matter. Floyd would have a thougher night then against Cotto because Canelo has a similar stile but is physically much stronger.
