Dropped quite badly by a light punching crusierweight. Thats quite a few times hes been hurt by by guys not considered punchers. I know this is heavyweight boxing and the guys punch hard regardless but i was very suprised to see him decked like that. He actually was buzzed quite bad. What are your thoughts?
His chin is fine. His balance, defence & positioning were at fault. It doesn't matter how good your chin is, if you get clocked with a sweet shot when off balance then you're getting dropped. His chin is solid, if he continues to box like a prat and allow himself to be hit his chin WILL deteriorate though.
His defence is dodgy. Can't really make a call on his chin. He has soaked up some big shots in fights too. It's yet to be seen whether his chin is good or bad at the elite level. He needs to tighten up his defence because no one ought to rely on their ability to take shots at heavyweight. Walking on, wide open, square on, to the full force of a 210-pound man's punch is a recipe for trouble whoever you are. Muhammad Ali was decked by Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper on his way to the title. Cooper decked him HARD, and Cooper was only 188 pounds. Still, Ali went on to beat guys like Liston, Foreman, Shavers, big 210 - 225 pound power punchers.
Definitely not glass jawed because he's got up twice to win, but is a concern and weak area. Overall he has to improve in several areas to compensate but I don't think he could ever fight like Wladimir, doesn't have the skills, not yet anyway.
I think he has an average chin, but puts himself into stupid positions like walking in with his hands down. The exact same shot put him down the other time he was dropped.
Cooper had a very big left hook money shot that when it landed was wages day. Not sure USS and Pajkic are in that league for power.
Getting dropped by just 1 punch by a guy who only has a KO% of around 30% & that's at Cruiserweight & was 44lbs lighter isn't a good sign if he wants to take on Klitsckos. His defence is the real problem tho.
His defence for right hands is terrible. He seems alright with normal right hand shots, but wild hooks over the top or shortened punches give him a lot of trouble. I think his chin is average, no more and no less. He will get one-shotted at some stage, I'm certain of that.
Chin's fine, Standing square on with hands by sides and getting hit by a bomb isn't wise and he pays price for it. He was fine, Watch him on canvas he brushes hair back it's more embarrassment he actually goes red and looks embarrassed by it all. I've only felt he's been hurt once and that was by Firtha. Chisora i felt it was more the commentator making something out of nothing i had faith he'd see it out and he did. Pajkic was the same as Saturday and he goes down like a tonne of bricks and gets right back to business. Watching the opening round from Saturday and he was back to turning face away from right hand with eyes closed. Peter's brought him a long way in a short space of time but seriously Tyson's got to learn from Saturday or else.
**** defense and a not so good chin. I know a lot are saying his chin is decent but a fat Canadian with very little power floored him and so did USS who isn't exactly known as a devastating puncher even at CW that has to set alarm bells ringing for anyone associated with him or even his fans.. It's been a good Job he's been so carefully matched so far because what Happened to Price would have no doubt happened to him If he got pushed too quickly.....Actually It probably will still happen soon enough.
Fury is heavy on his feet, and lacks balance, he struggles to react to overhead punches, he took that last one very similar to the Pajkic punch. Same sort of face, same sort of reaction. The more he takes like that, the less he will be able to take them. It takes chunks out of the chin. The punch resistance drops. The idea is that he tries to avoid them, but he seems to like a scrap (in his blood) the most entertaining thing about Fury, like Khan, is his vulnerability. He can adjust and improve his whole style and prevent taking those punches, or he can try to entertain, and risk losing plenty of fights.
Every human being in the world can be put down, lets see how many people can take a sledgehammer to the face and still be upright. What determines how good someones chin is is how they take the blow, do they go unconscious or do they get back up and shake it off. Fury's been dropped numerous times, some due to balance others due to the force of the punch but each time he's remained conscious, regained his feet and continued. Id say he has a pretty solid chin.
His recoverability is very good which is more important IMO. He got clocked by a huge shot, and he never got up jelly legged like Price or Khan. It looked like a much harder shot than the one that KO'd Price thats for sure.
