Just watched Trout-Canelo for the 1st time - Scores and Notes

I fell asleep about 20 minutes before the fight started, much to my annoyance, and haven't had a chance to watch it back before tonight. I generally think people score fights better when not in the heat of the moment so to speak. Hell of a close fight and very very enjoyable. I'm just going to post my notes as I took them, make of it what you will. They may not mean much in the context of just reading them without seeing the action, but I felt I did a good job of taking note of important action. Feel free to flame, talk ****, whatever you like. This is my 100% honest assessment of the fight. I had picked Trout to win before the fight.



Alvarez - Trout

Rd1 - Good workrate from Trout, lots of jabs thrown,
several landed. Good straight left to the body.
Canelo landed handful of jabs and one good straight
right on Trout's chin. Felt Trout was busier and controlled the action with the jab. Trout round.

Rd2 - Jabs again, decent right hook from Trout. Great uppercut from Canelo.
2 more good shots - left hook right uppercut from Canelo. Another great Canelo uppercut interspersed with
jabs from Trout. Clear round Canelo.

Rd3 - Jabs again from Trout, decent right hook. Right to the body from Canelo.
1 - 2 jab and body shot from trout. Effective jabs again. Canelo missing big rights.
Well timed solid jab Canelo. Canelo going to the body, landed one or two. Close round, Trout worked a little harder, but very
even.. 10-10 round.

Rd4 - Jabs from both. Some body work from Trout. Canelo getting more effective with jab. Glancing uppercut Canelo.
Body Canelo, jab trout. Great jab Canelo, straight right Trout. Very close for Canelo - better punches landed.
Canelo Round.

Rd5 - Exchanging jabs early. Decent right Canelo. Strong jab Trout. Right hook inside Trout. Hook to body and Straight right Canelo.
Left hand Trout. Left uppercut Trout.
Canelo not throwing or landing much but great head movement. Right to Body Canelo. Very close again, Trout on workrate and
solid shots landed. Trout round.

Rd6 - Good jab Trout. Body shot Trout. Canelo loading up, didn't land. Good right hook Canelo, followed by short left hook. Another
left hook. Uppercut canelo. Trout good inside bodywork.
Canelo slows as a result. Trout jabbing, missing, pins Canelo on the robes, landing one or two straight lefts and body shots.
Left hook to body. Good counter right Canelo.
Great right counter uppercut Canelo - STEALS THE ROUND.

Rd7 - Straight right Canelo, Trout down. Straight right and left each. Trout uppercut. Trout jabs. Hook Canelo. Uppercut Canelo,
straight right twice. Trout still jabbing, few landing.
Left hook Canelo. Good inside work Trout. Straight right again Canelo. Good pressure from Trout at the end. Trout fought back
extremely well, ending the round backing Canelo up. Not a 10-8 round.
10-9 Canelo.

Edit: Amended to 10-8 on second viewing of the round. Trout did come back well in the round, but later than I initially thought.
Didn't do enough to get the point back. Admit my mistake on that one.



Rd8 - Exchanging jabs. Little landing, quiet round so far. Uppercut inside Canelo. Glancing right Canelo. Left to body Trout, pins
Canelo to ropes again, good pressure but not landing much - Canelo head movement.
Left to body from Trout again, followed by left hook. Straight right Canelo. Jabs from Canelo, dancing away. Trout busier, good
pressure on the ropes. Trout round.

Rd9 - Solid jabs exchanged. Looping right Canelo. Uppercuts inside, good jab. Staight left Trout. Right to body Canelo. Glancing right
from Canelo on Trouts chin. Looping right followed by straight left Trout.
Uppercut inside Trout, and right to body. Straight right Canelo. Good boxing from Trout. More bodywork Trout.
Canelo Ali shuffle, showboating, but not working hard. Jabs Trout. Clear Trout round.

Rd10 - Uppercut Canelo. Staight left Trout. Right hook Canelo. Straight left Trout, working hard, aggressive. Straight right Canelo.
Right uppercut hurts Trout. Straight left Trout. Right Canelo. Left hook Canelo, straight Trout.
Trout jabbing again, throwing combos. Landing a good combo. Good work Trout, very busy. Just knicked the round.
Trout round.

Rd11 - Good uppercut Canelo. Straight right again. Good jabs Trout. Right hook Trout. Body combo Canelo, working harder, coming
forward. Right hand Canelo, good shot. Straight right and spins Trout. Uppercut again Canelo.
Good jab trout, pressure on the ropes, but eats uppercut. Good shots exchanged at the end of the round. Alvarez did enough
to win that round, much better shots landed. Canelo round.

Rd12 - Right to body Canelo. Good shots inside trout. Trout Coming on aggressive, uppercuts inside. Canelo back with a right
uppercut inside. Straight left Trout, straight right Canelo. Glancing left Trout. Again. Staight left Trout.
Left hook counter Canelo. Right hook Canelo. Straight right. Canelo landed some good counter shots, but not aggressive,
Trout worked hard, faded late in round, went missing for the last minute or so. Canelo better work and quality
counter shots in last minute just take it.
Very close round, going with quality of punches - Canelo round.

The KD happened early in the 7th. Watch the rest of the round, Trout controlled it for the most part. Fought back superbly well. 10-9 all day long.

Round 12.. really you could call that either way. Trout started it so well, aggressive, while Canelo backed off. With about a minute left though Trout really tired and Canelo started to pick some fantastic counter hooks and straights. I just had to hand it to him on quality of shots landed. But it's an example of how close this fight was, really either way, and a good illustration of why those judges were a joke.
