Well Floyd is also number at lmw and a belt holder. I consider him a ww/lmw.

Good for you, m'man. The Ring still did the right thing giving the title to the two best fighters available at the division. Floyd can still fight Canelo after his WW bout, I just don't see why should we rate him based on possibilities. He's fighting Guerrero at welterweight, period.

You have a good point BigBone altough I don't know if you can make a clear case that they were the no 1 and 2.

Well the ring's mission statement is to crown as many champs as possible so for them it absolutely was the right choice.

Ask me who the number 1 is though and I'm still going Floyd.

If Floyd stays at welter then fair enough but I dunno if that's gonna be the case or not.

Yeah, I don't understand at all why people are still taking The Ring seriously when it comes to determining lineal champions.

As for the original question, I say no because Mayweather still holds a belt there and hasn't been out of the division long enough to remove him from the rankings. I'm not even sure Trout and Canelo deserved to be regarded as 1 and 2 without Mayweather in all honesty.

I agree with it. Floyd didn't even want to commit to a fight against Canelo, a fight that he had already agreed to. Canelo is Champ and Floyd is #1 contender. For the record, I would still pick Floyd to beat Canelo by a decision. I would also pick Lara to beat Canelo.

If after beating cotto Floyd would have done a Pacman and basically said "I ain't fighting there no more" I could agree with this decision. I'm not overly fussed about it, I just don't consider canelo #1.

They don't need to be a clear no1 and no2 to pick up the lineage, and they were the best two available however, so per own rules The Ring did the right thing. Floyd is the best WW, Canelo is the best SWW, hope the two will fight and decide who's the better of the two.

Decision is fine, but this is also the RING title

does the RING and lineage line up at 154 because it doesnt a every weight

Why should anyone continue to equate The Ring belts with lineage?

If Floyd's staying at WW like I think, Canelo should be. If Floyd goes up to fight him later THIS YEAR, he should only if he beats Floyd. If Floyd doesn't go up to 154 THIS YEAR, it's Canelo's. Hopefully he'll continue to fight good challengers at his weight after this Trout win. The wide scorecards had to boost his confidence.

Because the two are based on the same logic.
