An Examination of Mayweather's Alleged Cherrypicked Career

Great, another ***** thread, about an issue that has been discussed and beat into the ground monotonously.

Yes, Mayweather has some great wins, and has fought many great fighters. He is ultra talented, and has a legitimate claim as being the greatest defensive fighter in history. Many will disagree, my point is that a strong case could be made for him in that sense. He is a great tactician, and has had tremendous longevity due to his incredible defense, and impeccable work ethic.

Yes, Mayweather did not fight some of the fighters he should have, such as when he turned down a career high payday against Margarito in 2006, for $8 million. The fight with Pacquiao wasn't made, which both share blame for, and he should have fought Cotto much earlier. There are others, but I am just speaking of more recent times... Baldomir is one of the worst champions of all time, his claim to fame is beating Judah, so that's not really a win to brag about.

The *****s claiming he is the GOAT, has fought all of the best challenges out there etc are wrong.

The *******s claiming all his victories are cherry picks, and that he is just a hype job are also wrong.

Usually when you have two contradicting sides to a story, the truth lies in the middle, and this case is no different.

You will never have a rational discussion making a thread that is biased like this one, it will just turn into a ***** vs ******* thread, can we stop beating this dead horse already?

Oh and FYI, I'm a huge Mayweather fan, I'm just not enamored with him like you *****s are, it's one unhealthy obsession you guys have. He is a top 50 ATG without a doubt, but is nowhere near being the greatest of all time in his respective weight classes, plain and simple.

I was going to read the toughest parts, but I'm on vacation today. Maybe when the list gets a little older or another list beats some of it up, I'll get around to it.

 

Yeah Oscar had lost 2 of his previous 4 fights before he fought Floyd, so I find it hard to believe he was ranked top 10 too. His victories were over Mayorga, and Sturm, the last of which the majority believe to have been a huge robbery. Arguably he lost 3 out of his last 4, and a win over Mayorga doesn't mean much at all.

 

The JMM line is great. It basically reads "Yeah, he was a lightweight and yeah, Floyd blew off the catchweight, but it's ok because I'm a *****."

Kind of unsure here but wasn't Cotto, Margarito and Pacquiao all under TOP RANK at the time where fans wanted to see them fight Mayweather.

If this was the case, I have absolutely NO blame to Mayweather.

If this ISN'T the case, then Mayweather is able to be perceived as ducking them.

Except the Pacquiao dispute of course, because both teams were to blame for that... Although, I mostly blame Bob!

 

Margs, Cotto, and manny were all Top Rank. Cotto's first fight free from Top Rank was... versus Floyd.

Floyd and pac are both to blame.

I enjoy watching Floyd, there's no doubt he's one of the best in this era; BUT you cannot deny that he's been VERY cautious with that 0 of his.
