Hardly anyone have a clue in this thread.

The most obvious things are not even mentioned. SMH!

    I box using conventional/philly shell.

Depending on who i am fighting and what i'm trying to accomplish determines what posture i will use. Mostly out of instinct and experience.

Philly shell is primary a defensive style that focus on counter punching/feints.
It is extremely useful to use for Counter punching on the retreat or in the pocket. Main goal is to block/deflect your opponents attack and counter.

Main weakness is that is not good to lead when you in philly. Your jab is basically stripped away. It is hard to jab with good speed when is by your waist obviously. The answer to this thread.

When i am on the offense I use conventional. Walk guys down. Jab is quick when your hand is up. i can block moving forward. It is very hard to move forward in philly. If your feet is not planted, how you going to deflect and react to your opponents moves?????

Was a fighter in the amatuers. Still go to the gym cause my fathers got buddies in the gym who r managers and things like that. Plus me and my buddies who stuck with it we work on tactics all the time cause we value them important between fighting camps. It forces everybody to be in better shape and more importantly, to not panic because u don't know wat to do against particular styles. Floyd's style is the most studied simply because i or one of my friends have combated that style in the ring. We try to tailor it for righties and lefties alike. We meet with high success and im happy i can contibute something that is effctive based on my own experiences in the ring and based on my studies of the fight game. I really wish I had stuck with it at times.

The question of the thread starter was to explain the philly shell's weakness, not its obvious strengths.

Honestly the only thing i've seen work on a consistent basis against mayweather is a solid jab, and not necessarily to the head. I think if you put that on his chest, midsection and once in a while to the head (you know mix it up). I recall a few time DLH hitting him with jabs to the chest, they didn't hurt obviously but they score points and can win a round.

Also it almost seems to be a must that you are taller than him in order to give yourself the best opportunity to land straight rights when the few and far between opportunities arise.

What I think some boxers get trapped into believing is that the castillo strategy is the best way to go. This to me worked once, and since then has been extremely ineffective for a majority of others.

You can tell that Floyd often have his hands up when he is being the aggressor. Against a fast handed fighter like against Judah who can't fight going back. He uses the conventional basically the whole match. The reasons are what i have listed above.

When he is on the retreat he prefers philly. He can look for mistakes and still be completely guarded.

If my short term memory is correct I believe Berto when using that bootleg Philly shell defense was walking forward with it and he paid a price when Guerrero was able to pounce on him because of it...

A lot of people tries to use philly but they don't know how to use it. I've seen guys just use it thinking that they are cool. I'll blast them with jabs and they can't react as they press forward. I keep them at the outside and they can't do ****.

If you are not fast, smart or able to disguise/fient your punches DO NOT USE IT.
