    I have already.

You fight them from the outside with your jab.

The best range for Philly is upclose. So don't fight his fight.

The answer to philly shell is the left punch.

Ever notice why Floyd does not use that style against southpaws?

Jabs don't win fights. Ask Trout.

You are a piece of work.

    thanks for sharing your information.

    I salute you.

  7. All 3 can be easily beaten. In other threads I already comprehensively broke down how and why Canelo-Vargas could have beaten Floyd. I will talk a bit in this thread regarding James Toney and the style that could have beaten him.

James Toney Defense would have been stopped by a Dariusz Michalczewski style fighter.

    1- Work Rate
Dariusz Michalczewski had an amazing work rate and puts on constant non stop brutal pressure every second of every minute of every round. Toney at times tend to get overly lazy and was weak in various areas in regards to lateral centric movement.

Although Roy does not put out anywhere near the offensive+work rate of Dariusz Michalczewski . he did put out sufficient pressure for that particular fight. Upon retreating into the shell instead of jabbing or throwing the over hand Roy just kept on PRESSING forward in a straight line as oppose to retreating off the lateral base. Michalczewski perfected that with his right hand combinations working off the back foot.

2- Accumulative power as oppose to 1 punch knock out power.

Vitali Klitschko has one of the highest KO % in heavyweight history because of accumulation.. That is one of the best results to take down a defensive minded shell. Vitali never had the one punch ko power of a Wladimir, a Foreman, or a Lewis. but what he does have is an accumulation that wear you down and take you down later on.

Sam Peter in many ways is an accumulation puncher and he eventually over came Toney's shell defense. Peter is no where near a perfected accumulater like Michalczewski was though and hence never reached anything beyond B Level in terms of his HW Career. Michalczewski meanwhile is a even better accumulation puncher than Vitali and would eventually work down the shell in a easy manner.

3- The Shell Limitations against fighters who switch defense/offense periodically.

Michalczewski is the perfect example of a periodic tempo switcher. In other words he will go from being overtly offensive to overtly defensive in a matter of seconds and it throws your entire basis of the shell in itself off balance.

Roy Jones Jr in many ways is a poor man's Dariuz when it comes to the swapping per se in between offense/defense. But when he did do it, Toney was confused for long stretches and was getting hit with counter right hands time and time again.

4-Hitting the body, not the shell.

Michalczewski is perfect in this sort of fighting simply due to his high punch output in relations to body attacks. Toney has proven time and time again that he is badly shaken when attacked to the body.

The above picture showed a very poor body puncher in Visoy Jirov finally going to the body and hurting Toney with the very first hook he landed.. Jirov even looked shocked that the 'granite chin' Toney was able to be shook so easily. It's easy work for Michalczewski who's bread and butter is the body punch. Body Punching kills any sort of shell defense if done by someone with great power.

Tyson was able to lay waste to the defensive genius Michael Spinks by going to the body often and early. Spinks never recovered due to the strenous effect body punching have on shell defense.

It's very very easy to break down the shell of James Toney if you are Michalczewski... Everything Toney does is actually countered by the superior fighter in Michalczewski in that styles make fights and Michalzcewski had the perfect style to Toney's defensive abilities.

I can't fully tell you why but there are so many things wrong with this post.

"Roy Jones Jr in many ways is a poor man's Dariuz when it comes to the swapping per se in between offense/defense."

Sorry buddy,i actually have boxed and has a son who box..i know lots about the sport and comments here are laughable..the philly shell aka the shoulder roll is only as effective as the person using it,because it relies heavily on reflexes and is not effective at all if you are not a good counter puncher as when you roll with the punches you open alot of counter punching opportunities

First of all, I gave 7 examples of potential weaknesses through 6 different users of a shell-like guard from 12 different fights. How you can gather that I gave one example and made it concrete is beyond me. Particularly in light of the fact all you wrote thus far was that it's harder to lead in a Philly Shell stance.

On the second point, Philly Shell fighters can be mobile (Hopkins, Whitaker) but often operate out of the shell in a more stationary fashion (Mayweather, Broner, Toney.) The thread starter specifically mentioned Broner and Mayweather's more stationary use of the shell, so I analyzed the repercussions of them putting much of their weight on the backfoot.

Third, it's not my fault if you can't read plain English strung together into sentences more than 3 seconds long. There's nothing I wrote that can't be comprehended by anyone with a high school education. What in the world is so rocket-sciency about what I wrote? "Lean on the lead hand on the inside"? "Overhand right"? "Cutting off the exits"? It's called boxing.

If you're lazy then feel free to skip over the post but don't talk **** about i and then come back with "I'm partially illiterate so your analysis sucks :| "
