It was quite clear that Bute looked tired, when he did the mitts. But the fact he kept his hands so low, kinda worries me. Pascal will at some point catch Bute, if he keeps his hands so low. Beastside, did you read any tactics from it? Did it gave you an idea, what they were working on or what they plans are for may 25th?

He should have kept a 12 month diet and would have been in shape all year long. That way he don t have to suffer in this hard training camps to take it from scratch every time, this way you ruin yourself and then comes a day when you are no longer capable to recover.

He is very determinated in trainings but also very loose, light, unprofessional with his diet regim in the rest of the year. The biggest error for it is from his team, he should not have the freedom to eat anything when he is off training for a fight. Look at Wladimir K, the man is in shape all year long and could jump in the ring with anybody anytime with no problem. Bute when not preparing for a fight looks like a sedentary common man, more like a carpenter than a top fighter. He can not recover all the inactivity and bad regime in 2 month of hard work, the body would not adapt so quickly and the result is ****. Big mistake !

That right hook is amazing. He also thrown some nice short fast combos in sparing. He waits, again, to long for the counter, he gets hit while waiting, not good. He should create the chances of a counter and not wait for them. His reflexes might be slowing down due to age.

And the plan about fight night. Bute plans to use a high work-rate, actually pressuring Pascal when he walks back, trying to score more and not let him rest to much, and use counters to try and knock him out. Won't be a crazy pressure, a calculated and constant one. I'm quite confident that if this ends going at scorecards, and Bute doesn't gets hurt or dropped a lot, he'll win it.

Don't want to pour cold water over anyone, but I think we've already seen the best of Bute. I don't think Bute can change or improve anymore. He's had a good career and he's certainly done very well money-wise/ popularity wise given his talent. He was very well promoted and he was lucky.

Pascal will win this thing. I am pretty sure about this. :good

I noticed that some of his shots was up close, Bute is normally not known for being a inside fighter, but maybe he is eager to fix that?

In one of the videos posted in this thread, Bute's trainer said that Bute, whilst more motivated than usual, is also more emotional.

Bute has also talked about how he lost his confidence in himself after the Froch fight.

I didn't see any evidence that Bute had regained his confidence in the Grachev fight. On the contrary, I saw him more emotional than ever, duking it out in the last round against Grachev, to prove his heart.

I also see Bute's team trying to boost his confidence in the videos posted here - they clap him constantly and they praise him again and again for every single minor task he performs.

Bute seems to seriously lack confidence, I'm afraid. A world class fighter needs to be very confident but not over-confident (like Bute was before the Froch fight). Bad news, I'm afraid, for Bute.

A world class fighter also needs to be as unemotional as possible, if he is to perform well and stick to the gameplan, especially given that Bute is not a pressure fighter or a brawler but a tactician and a boxer who needs to keep a very cool head at all times, and especially since Pascal is the kind of fighter who gets an emotional raise out of even the most composed of fighters. Pascal is very able to force his opponent to throw his game-plan out of the window and start doing what Pascal wants: brawling with him.

Bute becomes a much worse fighter when he becomes emotional because he starts brawling. Brawling with Pascal is a really bad idea. What is more, when Bute is emotional, he also panics more easily. What does Bute do when he panics? He expends more nervous energy, his defence gets worse, he clinches ineffectively and gets roughed up on the inside... he forgets to stick and move.

All these things being said, I cannot see how Bute can beat Pascal. I don't think he is improving at all either. I agree that we've seen the best of him.

I hate myself for coming here yet again with such a negative view. I apologise for it. I'm letting Bute down because I am not supporting him. :deal

I am hoping that I'm misreading things and exaggerating their importance.

Perhaps I should stop posting about this fight altogether... :conf

Over thinking things, Bute is mature and not as fragile as you think. As proof of confidence, stands his comment very early after the fight was singed, that Pascal won't stand 12 against him. He never said stuff like that before. Second the cheering in training is not for confidence purpose it's for making him push harder. When it's becoming really painfully on the physique, it's like a barrier you need to break first with your mind and then with your body.
I was running when young, and the trainer put me to do 20 field laps, as an entrance test at the athletics club. So by the 11th or 12th my spleen hurt really bad, almost gave up, but pushed myself another lap and then another, and by the 14th lap the pain was bearable and I could finished my 20 and go 2 more.
His team try to do what they can to push him over the limit. And make him notice that they are praising his efforts.

Bute will brawl with Pascal, no doubt about it. Just that it needs to be very short sequences, 10-15 seconds no more, and once two tree rounds, until Pascal gets tired(I'm 90% sure he will). He can't escape the occasional brawls, so he better expect them. From this point of view the Grachev fight was helpful.
The thing that's more dangerous than the brawls is that he at times waits to much for the counter, that doesn't need to happen, because he'll get jumped with powerful hooks from Pascal coming in. That's where Jean Pascal can hurt Bute badly.

Also all the talk with Improving himself. Bute doesn't need to improve on things that you learn from amateurs. He needs to improve his stamina, his accuracy, his punching out-put. Not that hard to do, and very possible his punch resistance was already improved by not being forced to starve himself to death looking like a zombie(skin and bones) at weigh-ins.
Other that this, he only needs small tweaks(adjustments) and a good game plan.
