If these two ever fought would it be a fun fight or snoozefest? I suppose it all depends on your opinion of technical JJ matches, doesn't it?
I think the problem here would be for Mir. Werdum has a much better stand-up. Mir pretends to have good stand-up. On the ground it might be a toss-up.
Nope. Werdum is x10 the grappler that Mir is. Mir can't grapple to save his life. Couple that with being one of the best BJJ artists in the world behind Big Nog and Werdum takes home Mir's right arm.
Mir has never been submitted in his entire MMA career and Werdum, great though he is, has only finished two MMA fights by submission in the last six years. One of them was when Fedor fell right into his guard with zero caution. Don't just assume that Werdum can easily submit him based on your personal hatred for Mir. :nono :hat
I reckon Werdum would keep it standing, where he can beat the **** out of Mir. Why would he even fight on the ground, when Mir is not very good at takedowns but has a proven world-class ability to suddenly and brutally end fights by submission? Can't see Mir suddenly knocking Werdum out cold on the feet, but could definitely see him grabbing an arm during a scramble on the ground. :smoke :hat
I hear you, but that same Big Nog got his arms turned to eggnog by Mir. I won't discount him that quickly.
Mir subbing Nog is meaningless. Nog is old, shot, and has more holes than swiss cheese now. Considering every time Mir's been put in with a live opponent, and thoroughly humiliated its easy for me to see where this fight will go bearing in mind Werdums grappling credentials.
:jjj Can we get a definitive list of all the guys whose losses are meaningless? Big Nog Shogun Cro Cop Fedor Am I missing anyone? Cro Cop was so damned shot that he barely even managed to win the K1 World Grand Prix after he left the UFC. atsch :hat
:yikes Are you seriously trying to say Crocop isn't a shot fighter??? In fact, don't answer that. It's clear from your post that you do. I feel really bad for you. You think a guy who beat up Barnett and Aleks Emelianenko in his prime then wasn't shot when he got totalled by Brendan ****ing Schaub. This forum sucks.
atsch A shot fighter is Ali circa Holmes and Berbick. Tyson versus Williams and McBride. Not guys who can compete and hold their own at the top level of combat sports. The K1 tournament was weak compared to previous editions, and Cro Cop was lucky to get the nod in his first fight, but he still won it. A shot fighter who can't pull the trigger anymore doesn't win that or ANY tournament. Cro Cop has gone 6-0 since returning to kickboxing, including winning the biggest tournament in the sport. During that tournament he handed a 21-0 fighter his first pro defeat. How the **** is that a "shot fighter"? :-( :hat
Er, because he's been getting totalled for years by guys he would have made corned beef hash out of in his prime. His punch resistance is gone, his power is wildly reduced, he doesn't even fight the same way anymore. He's as shot as Sonny Corleone in Godfather 1. That's why he's moved away from top level MMA and started competing in kickboxing again, where the quality level is, in my opinion, much much lower these days. Stick him back in the cage right now with some scrub like Mitrione or Duffee, and he probably gets KO'd again. A prime Crocop would've kicked their heads off and laughed about it. This is the measure of when someone is shot, not whether they can still amble about a ring for 10 minutes.
