I might be wrong, but I believe Buddy Baer was only knocked down by Joe Louis. He 'chinniest' performance was getting KD'd 3 times in 1 round by Joe Louis, rather than Michael Bentt.
I would say Jersey Joe, however others might argue Marciano or Baer, or Charles and even Bivins to a degree. But IF it ain't Walcott then it's Charles or JHL anyone?
This is amazing to me about Louis and the times he fought in. The heavyweight title only had 10 owners until Max Schmeling took it. Joe KO'ed him and the next four title holders after him. Then for 11 years he KO'ed EVERYONE else until Ezzard Charles. If not for the war he might have defended it another 10 times.

Actually you're right then again bar Louis and Galento, Buddy never faced any punchers of note unless you want to include Abe Simon. I still maintain Morrison is the better fighter :bart
While on one level I agree with you, Louis knocked all those guys out. Some more than once. And I think it's a little crazy to pretend like none of the bug guys Louis fought had skills; hell Tyson fury and buddy baer are similar, save baers better chin, and fury is a contender. I mean who are the best h2h guys marciano and Dempsey beat? Certainly they aren't as good as the guys Louis beat but I think most guys rank one or the other highly as head to head forces.
I agree...Buddy Baer is seen only on film against the murderous punching Joe Louis,then in his prime. So to say Tommy Morrison beats a Buddy Baer who kod most everybody he met,on the basis of the Louis fight is silly and shortsighted...
Yeah, that's the 'just about' part. Although to be fair I think Al McCoy was a switch hitter. And more importantly a lot of great heavyweights didn't fight lefties. I don't think Lennox Lewis did.
Looking at the greats, Wlad has by far the biggest and best hw southpaw resume. All the others either fought 1, or 0. Then we got Holyfield who faced a few more or Vitali if you consider him great. But only Wlad really got a southpaw resume. Lewis, Tyson, Young Foreman, Frazier, Louis, Marciano, Holmes fought zero Ali, old Foreman, Dempsey, Liston one.
If it is a head to head argument, then Schmeling, Baer, Conn and Walcott are prety much interchangable. Personaly I think that puts the bar in a fairly strong place. These guys are better than the best fighters that Holmes or Tyson beat, and going back the other way they are better than the best that Johnson or Dempsey beat.
