Lopez must've had the worst defense of any world class fighter I've ever seen. I bet I could've cracked him with a few solid right hands before he pummeled me. That, combined with his bone-crunching power, is what made his fights so fun to watch despite how basic a technical fighter he was.

Agreed, very basic and quite slow. Damn near every right Sanchez threw landed flush. I'm seriously impressed with his gas tank tho, not many bangers could fight at the pace he fights at taking the punishment he takes and still remain so strong.

Lopez vs Hamed would have been great.

especially there's a reasonable chance the prince would have been rendered horrifically unconscious.

I haven't seen that since the time. What I remember about it was what a hard man Michael was.

The same can be said of all LMR-Griffith fights.:yep

Anyway, I've been rewatching humiliation of Griffith lately.

And it got me thinking - is there a better filmed tetralogy as far as technical skills shown by both fighters are concerned?

    Ezz-Walcott.

    Anyone else?

By the way, is there any footage of LMR-Cokes fights?

Toney-McCallum perhaps. For heavies it's Ali and Frazier but screw heavyweights. Duran-DeJesus is a notch under. Off the top of my head.

Edit: how about Ortiz-Laguna and Winstone-Saldivar?

Just re-watched an old past favorite that I had not watched in a while; Saad-Qawi 2.

There were still a ton of Saad Muhammad backers and followers going into the fight & people just weren't sold on Qawi, mostly because of his lack of height. Some people thought Saad was pretty well a spent force after that licking from the first fight & others thought his resilience would come through once again. But I thought it'd be all Dwight in the rematch and knew it is very very likely to turn out that way at the ref instructions when Qawi was yelling at Saad during the stare down. No respect whatsoever for the old warrior.

The fight itself was kind of similar to what we saw years later in that Tyson--Holyfield rematch. Lots of folks ignoring or failing to acknowledge things that transpired in the initial bout. And Qawi set the table so early in that first round and simply made it a continuation of the beating he dished out previously. So in essence it was the next round of their previous fight.

And Saad got hurt early about halfway through the first round when he got wobbled from a right hand. And when he retreated to the ropes because he had no legs, Qawi really worked the body. And Dwight was kind of like that early Tyson, the way he was stuffing that jab either into the chest or face of Saad while taking a step. It jolted Saad and put him in that absolute horrible range and distance where Qawi had perfect extension on his power shots.

It was wash rinse repeat for the next few rounds and anyone with any hope of seeing Matthew win, pretty much saw that go away when he visited the canvas. But Saad simply would not quit and was like a Frazier trying to continue on against Foreman. Saad was badly hurt every round of the fight and his corner should have stopped the fight. Instead of saying tie him up. Qawi at his optimal operating distance is no easy guy to tie up and he would fire off those bodyshots of his as soon as Saad attempted to hold.

The ref finally stepped in and stopped it after Saad had been punched from the ropes from 1 side of the ring to another.

Man, that Qawi was something when he was in top form back then. I still don't know why Leonard in his color commentary was saying Saad had to throw a left uppercut. Maybe because that right hand always went right over the top and could not land clean, so it was another punch to try. But Qawi was constantly coming over the top of Muhammad's left hand and hurting him with straight right hands. And Saad was dropping that left after about the 3rd round and throwing an uppercut from the outside against Qawi would have been extremely dangerous. Saad had that A#1 left hook, but Ray was still calling for the uppercut.

Brutal fight though and if Saad was a car, he was pretty much a Rambler with rust and an engine that had been rebuilt twice after those rounds against Qawi.

Even though he still was a pretty good fighter Saad already was on the decline by the time he faced Qawi.

    Yup, Griffin won.

Prime Griffith's inside game was pretty effective.
