I don't think Fury has the power nor the movement to keep Gerry off and from watching the Cunningham fight not sure Fury can keep his ass off the floor. Cooney was frail but a left hook one armed freak and he used the the right effectively but without power, still the left hook power takes Fury out. Fury appears to have heart and is game but Cooney looks like a KO winner here

Cooney would obliterate Fury he was faster, had a superior Jab, insane power, and was more fluid in the Ring than Fury.

People need to remember Cooney wasn't even close to being developed against Holmes do ANY of you think this version of Fury would last 13 with Holmes? :roflatsch

Cooney was overrated in his day and he got a title fight without ever fighter more than 8rounds, but his left hook was not overrated he used the right like a converted southpaw does but he used it but the guys left hook was great and to the body and the head, his left side was largely out of proportion to the right side, Fury has a tougher mind set but if he had Gerry's hook he would be golden

 

Fury's a headcase. Too early to tell how this one pans out. Fury might box his ears off like he did against Johnson or he might recklessly wade in and eat a big left that puts him on his arse. He seems pretty good at getting himself out of bad situations, however, so unless Conney knocks him out, he might still be able to rally back.

 

I agree, for the most part Cooney was overrated

 

Fury is such a funny guy, hope he becomes the GOAT someday.

Cooney schools him then bangs him out ... if Fury doesn't decide to get himself DQed as he begins to understand that he's in over his head.

 

I'd say he has the potential to be good and disciplined enough, but could just as easily booze it up (probably with Cooney in the same pub) pre-fight and come to the ring a sloppy mess. He clearly has major issues with professionalism. Nonetheless, when he did get it together he looked like a completely different fighter. Johnson might not be the best gauge on his abilities, but he's a solid tricky opponent who would have embarrassed the Fury that fought Cunningham but was shut down by the disciplined version that he actually fought.

As for Cooney, he could well take out Fury in the early going, but I just get the feeling that Fury's going to be a lot harder to stop than people think. He seems to be channelling some of that Bowe like resilience that'll keep him in the fight despite shipping major punishment, though he's yet to sustain a really serious and one-sided beatdown.
