This is for hipsters only! I think we know what I mean when I say a better jab but if you need to define it define it. I think this will be rather instructive on how we view two very distinct uses of the left jab (at least until the thread breaks down with 'Boxed Ears syndrome' also known as cobrafication).

True hipsters have long since abandoned either of these fighters as too mainstream red!

Anyway, i'd take Kalambay on account of Harada having T-rex arms and it being a superior weapon in and of itself, but's not easy to compare with such a difference in style. It's a great educated, versatile technical jab that can do everything with plenty of speed and snap. It's only really the real top-end freaks that had out of the ordinary physical attributes that allowed freakish range\speed\power on the punch for their weightclass(on top of their educated technical attributes) that i'd put on a higher tier...ie Hearns, Foster, Hagler(for reach and power) etc

Harada had a great educated jab too, but it wasn't as much of an all-round weapon, it was more hampered by range and he had more of a tendency to abandon it, or get sloppy with it for stretches.Still when he was jabbing his way in with it or moving a bit and popping it out in little clusters it was great to watch and probably as important a tool for his style of fighting as for many more traditional jabbing boxers, in that respect it's a close comparison, but ultimately i prefer the stronger individual punch. As a setup tool for his follow up punches and a distracting mechanism that let him control range it was great.

I really, really like the Harada jab. I like how it's integrated into his style. Not that I think it's better than Kalambay's or anything, just that I never really heard much about him as a jabber around the time I first saw footage of him and it really stood out to me. Anyway, I've only seen 13 rounds of Sumbu in full, but lora's probably on point here as usual.

And I don't mess around with no hipsters. Not since I saw what they

If you like harada's jabbing style, watch Sibson vs John Collins:yep it's only two rounds and up on youtube.

Sibson's basically got the same strengths and weaknesses as a jabber. Not quite as effective overall obviously due to not being on Harada's level as a fighter, but this fight is a landmark in underrated t-rex armed rapid fire jabbing.

Collins was getting a lot of hype as an undefeated big puncher at 29-0 and Sibson was set up as a stepping stone, having been stopped by Hagler. Two rounds of surging in behind rapid fire tiny armed jabs later and Collins career was lying broken at his feet.

    Done and done. :good

It was a really nice display by Sibson. Had only seen his losing efforts against Hagler and Lee before. A great showcase for the destructive nature of rapid fire tiny armed jabs indeed.

Hipsters all love Sumbu...but Harada had the better jab and he used it to perfection vs a greater fighter (Eder Jofre) than Sumbu ever fought.

Do you think it's hipsterism and not honest boxing analysis that sees many think kalambya a better fighter than Jimmy Young red?:yep

Well I do that too, mostly, but not when it's a poster I respect, as is the case with LittleRed. :conf

Are you a Sibson or Jimmy Young man, boxed?

I consider this an important philosophical question as well as a purely boxing one.

    How dare you!
You granny Smith flavored mother ****er! When this red delicious sees you next he's going to turn you into apple pie!
Yes actually. McCallum wasn't really Mike McCallum yet.
It wasn't meant any other way. No it wasn't.
On to the actual point: I chose these guys because Haradas jab is very effective but it's clearly not as important to his success as Kalambays. more importantly Sumbu used his in a much more traditional manner. I wondered if Kalambays edge was a trick of perception (based on whose style should have the better jab). I think loras post makes sense now that I think about it, that Kalambays use of the jab was bound to be more effective. Hmm...
