It's a disadvantage for Manny to sweat down to a catch weight when he can just train, eat what he wants, and come in at 147.

Yeah Alvarado does come in weighing 160 (damn, I forgot the actual weight), but he came in weighing way more than 140. He fights at 140. I think a ~143 or so will help him, not hurt him. I'm not a Pacquiao fan, but the hate for this is kind of ridiculous.

It doesn't make sense. But Arum is a snake, and the question is why the need for a "catchweight"? What's he cooking? :think

You're right. Alv should do better draining less.

At the same time manny is again creating his own weight class to benefit himself. manny has been at welterweight for four years. It's time he stops BS'ing around playing the look at me I'm small and really a light welter angle.

He's limiting how much they can move up into the division.

Maybe he wants them to have options at 140 if they lose to manny?

People were complaing about Pac draging Rios or Alvarado up to 147 because they have never fought there even tho there both bigger than Pac I don't have a problem with this catch weight there just meting somewere in between seems fair to me there is just no pleasing some people

Possibly, because if they lose at Welterweight, then it doesn't affect their status at Jr.Welterweight.

They could just fight at 147. But since Alvarado and Rios have never fought at welterweight, I think it would be a good idea for them to request a catch weight especially if it's Pac whom they are moving up to face.

Right. But Rios and Alvarado deserve to get a shot at Manny because they've put on a hell of a performance against each other, but jumping up a complete weight class is hard....a catch weight seems fair for either man who ends up fighting Manny. Evens the playing field.

I don't see a problem with it as its not for a title, just a shame the choice of opponents are not that good.

I personally don't think this helps Manny much... I think this may have been done to counter some of the hate he'd get for them coming up to 147 to face Manny in their first fight there. No title on the line, whatever. Let Manny get his confidence back, catchweight and all.
