I find your reply to be quite a downplaying of Franklin's career. If you want to downplay his wins over Shamrock, Liddell and Wanderlei Silva then so be it. In all likelihood if Anderson Silva had not come along Franklin would have held the middleweight title much longer than he did.
I do want to downplay Rich's wins over Shamrock, Liddell and Wanderlei, if that's all the same to you. Liddell was shot, Shamrock was ****. I suppose his wins over Wandy have some value, but not a heck of a lot. Nothing that's going to get you into the HOF off the back of a reign of terror that consisted of Tanner, Loiseau and Quarry.
No, it's a fighter's accomplishments over their career as a whole. There aren't many people that win a UFC title much less defend it more than once and Franklin was able to do so. I'm not saying that he's a first ballet hall of famer but you and Scurla are playing the douche cards in this thread and started trying to pick him apart well you said it yourself that his two victories over Wanderlai count for something so shut your mouth and move on.
Rich will get in, a good fighter who was great for the sport. Maybe his resume doesnt put him in the ATG category, but he was always in entertaining fights and was the Champ. And dont underestimate the mileage taken from his former profession in the shift in public perception from the Tank Abbot era...
WTF are you waffling on about ya drunk hobo?!!? Douche? You've always been a UFC cheer leader so don't pretend to be Mr objective. Either way i don't think Franklin is a HOF worthy fighter. Thats my opinion. "So shut your mouth and move on".
My money would be on him making the HOF, but it's not exactly a massive distinction this early into the sport. It's not like a "Hall of Fame" actually exists, anyway. It's just a silly little title.
I have no doubt he'll make the UFC HOF. But their criteria is sketchy at best and based on the whims of Dana. Franklin was most definitely a credit to the sport and came across as a decent guy. But when you examine his resume its not HOF worthy material. But to be fair the Middleweight division in the UFC during the 2000's was pretty much a waste land.
It's more like a drunk Ronin. Like Zatoichi. You're the one that won't give the UFC it's credit and try to dismiss anyone that says differently as a cheerleader. Peronsally I'd like to see a return to rings in some venues and octagons in others. It would make the sport more like other sports with different types of playing fields. Some fighters would do well in one and not so good in another.
All you have to do is note the lack of Frank Shamrock in the UFC HOF to see that it isn't very legitimate. Especially when you know why he was omitted.
O be quiet. There's two types of fans in this sport and you're definitely of the cheer leader variety with your constant shameless schilling for the UFC. And for the record i'm quite certain iv supported far more UFC's shows and Expo's than you have. I'm an MMA fan first and foremost. But il call bull**** every time. If you don't like it too bad.
Same goes for this guy [yt]Vaw8t-wOMEA[/yt] I mean, who hasnt beaten their nephew with a hammer then drove a pick up truck through a Casino lobby :conf
The first year of inductions for the International Boxing Hall of Fame was 1990. That was 98 years after Corbett defeated Sullivan for the heavyweight championship. It's only been 19 years since UFC 1. The UFC's Hall of Fame is a bit young, and it omits the accomplishments of fighters that haven't competed in the UFC. I don't really think it holds a lot of merit. MMA may be old enough for a Hall of Fame if you're willing to go back to the days of Helio, Carlson, Kimura, Santana, Pereira......You would just have to break it up into eras the way the IBHOF has done. If you look at the UFC alone, Rich Franklin may have done enough to be in their hall of fame. It gets harder to justify if you look at the sport as a whole. Either way, I'm willing to bet there will by many more deserving than him 20 years from now. The UFC is too young to have a credible hall at this point.
