Tyson wins the rematch, probably loses to Holyfield on a thriller, takes out Ruddock, Lewis, or Bowe, then fades from letting himself go.

    Incoorrect.

Don King tried everything to get the Tysons belts back....

However, the handlers of Douglas knew that Lightening never strikes twice and conned Steve Wynn into hosting a Superfight with Douglas at that time hot Mirage Hotel and Casino with a if I remember correctly 30 mil payday for Team Douglas...........it is confirmed that Buster ordered a large amount of pizza on the day of the fight.....they kept Wynn in the dark about Busters preperation and when he finnaly got wind it was too late in the promotion to pull out..........Wynn never hosted a big ticket fight after that and I can say with certainty that if Wynn would have never be trying to be a player against King ,Douglas would have had no other choice and rematch Tyson to cash out.

Did Tyson need to psychologically rebuild after the devastating Douglas loss? He was still quite young.

The pizza story actually was floating around the week before the bout. Douglas was ordering pizza's and having them delivered while he was in a steamroom or a sauna, trying to drop weight.

Going into the Commander Vander bout, a lot of people still did not warm up to a guy moving up in weight and struggling so much with Dokes. And, of course, thinking Douglas was going to duplicate his superior effort.

It was a very close bet odds wise and there were big backers on both sides. It was one of those competitve matches going in, but a Monday morning quarterback fight once it was over.

Me, I thought Evander Holyfield was going to put forth a career best performance when he did get his Heavyweight title shot. And you knew Benton was going to have him 100% ready and in top condition. The pizza delivery to a guy not jogging to lose weight was a blessing to me. Then buster goes in and weighs in with significant flab and folks were surprised---and this after seeing so many of those 80's guys aside from Holmes, balloon up immediately after a big win.

A chameleon can change colors, but it's still a lizard.

I think Buster showed what he was capable of against Tyson. Lots of people talk about how Buster was in a unique position in his life before he fought Tyson, and how Tyson's eye was off the ball because he was getting distracted with lots of ****.

Tons of ifs and ands. I think it was in Buster's hands. He certainly wasn't a better fighter than Tyson, but I'm convinced he had his number.

Yes he did need to, but he just never did...Not the right people around him at the time and bad decisions, but your right he was still a young fighter

I'd love to see your definition of having someone's number then...

Both improve (Buster due to being more confident and Tyson due to being more focused) but on balance I think that Buster still wins, as (1) he'd watch out for Tyson's power more; (2) be more confident that he'd get the decision as champ; and (3) the first fight was so one-sided that Tyson couldn't, without Rooney, improve THAT much.

Buster gets even fatter, but in the interim, Evander Holyfield fights Tommy Hearns who moves up (on the basis that Tyson is out of action) and has a shock loss to the Hitman. Then, a fat Buster loses to Hearns.

However, SRL also moves up in this period and so we see the much anticipated rubber-match between these two. SRL would move up better to heavyweight than Tommy, though he'd take a lot of punishment, and so HE achieves Tommy's great achievement of moving up from welterweight to heavyweight and winning the title.

Meanwhile, Duran has been gradually moving up to heavyweight. Though he's a bit chubby, he wins several cruiserweight bouts and SRL sees his opportunity to take advantage of Duran's weight. In their fight (in around 1992), SRL seemingly ages overnight, but still is ahead going into the 12th round. He knocks Duran down with a check-hook, but SRL's corner mishear the count and run into the ring to congratulate him, clearly distracting Duran and resulting in Hands of Stone being counted out. The referee has no choice but to award Duran the fight by DQ. SRL, in disgust, retires and Duran becomes the undisputed heavyweight champion in controversial fashion.

Hagler comes out of retirement at this point. Hagler was always a natural middleweight and looks shockingly flabby at heavyweight, so Duran fancies his chances. In the 5th round, both connect with punches and go down, as in the famous ending of that fight between Mutti and Murphy. Duran gets distracted by SRL's corner, who got some expensive ringside seats using money from a bet on Hearns beating Holyfield, AGAIN and fails to rise, but Hagler gets up.

In short, the answer is "the Fab 4".
