I don't blame Kahn for holding I mean thats what you have to do in that position. If he hadn't then he may of got KO'd and if not then he would definitely have got put down again and that would have cost him on the cards. His recovery skills have improved and you could see him trying to be more disciplined but there is still a lot of work to be done on not getting hit in the first place.
Nobody is berating Khan for holding. They are mocking him for having to. People are rightly berating the ref for being more of a homer than Mr Simpson.
So I guess Khan was knocked out then. Based on all the chincheckers chiming in with his glass chin, there's no way he came off the canvas to win, right? No way he took even 1 massive punch without being sparked, based on the fact his chin is glass, right? Good KO win for Julio! Wait, Khan was knocked down in the 4th and still won a UD?? Wow.
It was an issue because, had Khan had a point deducted (like he should have) one of the scorecards (IMO, the one most reflective of how things went) would have shown a draw.
Christ, the dudes on this board are still so fervent and irrational with their Floyd/Manny spat that they find themselves defending Amir Khan of all people just so they can lay into Roach. Even after they watch a fight play out the same way yet again, they still hold onto this message board turf war. Less jittery, better recovery skills, calmer? What fight did they watch? This is who he is at his core, this is who he's always been. I've come to the conclusion that it's practically impossible to have an honest sincere discussion about this sport on ESB. Folks are just too addicted to their internet turf battles.
Yes I think his offence has suffered a bit, he is thinking too much and there is a conflict between his instincts/natural style and what Hunter is trying to teach him. I'm doubtful this version of Khan beats the likes of Maidana, Malinaggi, Judah etc.
No I don't think the holding was as excessive as most other fights. Maybe there should have been a warning but not a point deducted.
When the British commentary team are commenting that Khan should have received warnings for fight conduct you have to sit up and listen. The same commentators who only narrowly awarded Diaz the 4th round.
Was he knocked out tonight? What about his other wins? Was he knocked out in every fight he won? Dont think so. Old definition of Glass Chin: Fighter gets knocked down, doesn't recover, and loses, or is knocked unconscious. New Definition: Fighter takes flush shots from a world class boxer on the chin, goes down from a flash knockdown, gets up and gets hit a few more times with heavy shots (this IS boxing, ya know?) and wins UD. Ali then had glass in his jaw. Holmes got KTFO by Tyson = Glass. Floyd took a knee= Glass mandible.
He doesnt take punches as well as maybe 2% of the boxing population, but if he had a soft chin, he would have a 4th L on his record. Face it.
The press will eat Khan alive for this fight... Wouldn't exactly shock me if Hunter/Khan split. Virgil teaching Amir some tricks to make space & free himself up no doubt but Amir needs more offense to be mixed in. Hunter to me hasn't showed Khan how to utilize his speed in an offensive way besides jabbing & extending the left to create room for his vulnerable chin. Khan could win using an amateur style easily... Someone get Pedro Diaz number. (Of Mayweather Sr.)
