Amir Khan is the Wayne Rooney of Boxing. To much to soon, he has been burned out at the age of 26. His career has been rushed and fought at the top level way to soon. He is the outcome of the snakes in boxing. He was never a defensive wizard, nor did he have an iron chin. This isn't Saul Alvarez.

He didnt develop and learn enough before getting on the big stage, and I presume its all downhill from here (and has been for a while)

    Shame really.

Wonder if all those wild card gym wars has further burned him out. They used to go hell for leather there and throw with mean intentions in sparring. Also sound of the heavy punishment he has taken in his recent fights catching up with him.

should have stuck with Freddie. Don't know why he changed trainers at all ,he don't seem to know what he is supposed to be doing. The opponent was good and to be honest that was needed,a blow out would not have done him any good at all. From khan's point of view he has to hope that was a transition to the new training regime fight. If that is what they are going to bring to fights a level up from tonight they need to forget it.

Spot on. He looked cumbersome and sluggish. Not sure how much of this can be attributed to physical decline though.

Not much I can add other to what's already been said, the style does not suit him, without wanting to take the ****, he isn't an intelligent fighter, what Hunter is trying to do is change Amir's complete set up, it was never going to work.

I was also going to mention this, we won't have heard about the times he was floored or hurt in sparring and he was sparring with pacman too. I don't think he's shot quite yet but he does seem to have lost some explosiveness and he seems to be fighting like he is scared to lose. Before he got KO'd by Garcia he only had the flash Prescott KO as a black mark as he seemed to deny the loss to Peterson to himself, since then he's realised he needs to change his style to avoid shots because he can't take them and its not natural to him. It's also possible that he worked too much on techniques with hunter and didn't get into top shape and do his road work. He needs another couple of fights before going back to title level if he wants to prolong his career.

After the Garcia fight near enough everybody on this forum was saying he needed a new trainer who specialised in defence more. Now after two fights with one we have a load of people saying he should have never left Roach.

Boxing fans have no patience whatsoever...last night wasn't good but neither were his last two performances under Roach. Strength and conditioning might be the issue here more than anything, Khan looked at his best when he was working with Ariza and training the way he wanted him to. As far as his actual boxing goes it's going to take more than two fights for him to fully adjust to what Hunter wants him to do.

I don't like saying this about a British fighter but I can't help but think he was on PED's while Ariza was looking after him.

I don't think Khan's 'shot' at all, I just feel his punch resistance is back to the level it was pre-Ariza.

Excellent comparison. His team have had the 'make money fast' attitude from the very beginning. And in doing so they neglected his developments as a fighter. That's what they suffered from when they moved him to Box Office back in 2008, and that's what they're suffering from this very moment; with them lining him up for the winner from Garcia, Matthysse and Peterson - 3 guys who would wipe the floor with that Khan we saw on Saturday.

Agree with the above. Especially the bit in orange. Khan at the moment may well be confused with the style that's trying to be injected in him, but it's the right style.

It's just that the decline of his phyiscal makeup isn't helping. His ability to hold a shot has worsened after those Peterson and Garcia defeats. And as we all know, Khan always breaks down -- mentally and physically -- when he's hurt. That chin is and always will be his downfall. It's the root cause of all of his problems.

Stuey mentions the thick legs and lighter upperbody under Roach and Ariza and now there's a change in the body shape it's no bigger neck and looking big on upperhalf again.

I said again because Khan started his career under the guidance of a S&C coach who was involved in rugby and ITV made a big thing of how he's structuring Khan's body to be the supreme fighting machine.

Problem was he was top heavy, Ariza changed him after the Prescott fight and helped mold his body into a guy who stood up to punches a damn sight better then the man last night. Diaz isn't a big puncher, last night was worrying to say the very least..

I do feel Ariza's work though could be high performance but very draining and maybe a factor in Khan's recent outings being not as good as before.

Gary with regards to you're comment about his last two displays under Roach. I agree fans lack patience and yes the displays were poor but they were both displays against prime world class fighters. Julio Diaz is past prime, still handy but shouldn't be wobbling you and boxing with you.

But maybe Khan's display last night may get some of the big guns fancying it and Khan may of hustled himself into a big fight which may produce best of him. We shall see..
