Even if the referee did believe that, instant replays were being used specifically to correct erroneous calls like that. The people watching that concurred with the referee, which can't be justified when you see the replay which clearly shows a punch landing.

 

I'm not saying the call was right, in fact I said it was wrong. Read what I'm responding to before jumping in, please. There's a lot of "oh poor Murray" that seems to have affected how people are scoring the fight.

I'd consider myself a fan of Martinez yet I had Murray a winner so personally no bias came into my scoring. If there was anyone predominantly hitting arms and gloves, it was Martinez from what I saw. And the punchstats seem to back that up.

To me, the more eye catching punches throughout the fight came from Murray.

 

Just watched the fight again and had it 6-5-1 Murray. 12th round even.

So that's 115-113 Murray and that's not taking into account the missed 2nd kd.
However you could score the 5th and 12th for Martinez (which I scored for Murray and the last even) and I'm sure many did, that would make it a 1 point win for Sergio unless my maths is bollocks which it usually is.
So no robbery then but MM was certainly a little unlucky imo.

 

The punchstats looked like crazy clicking, IMO. It's just a bloke counting manually.

 

I agree with this.

I've been a fan of Martinez since he battered Bunema years ago but last night was the poorest I've ever seen him. So many of his shots were falling about 6" short of their target and they merely tapping Murray's gloves. I thought he fought a bad fight and Murray was the one who was landing the better punches from about round 4 onwards. CompuBox numbers aren't always right but I think they were last night.

The annoying thing for Murray must be that he didn't lose many rounds. He gave rounds away through inactivity but he didn't try hard to win rounds, yet get outboxed or knocked down himself. Martinez stole a lot of quiet rounds, which made the fight closer than it should have been.

It won't happen but I'd like to see a rematch. I think Murray could get the decision if they did it again but I'm sure Martinez will look for a bigger fight. One thing I am certain of now, he should stay as far away from Golovkin as he can if he wants to retain his belts. I'm sure a few fighters like Mayweather, Canelo or Ward are starting to wonder about him.

 

I think Martinez might retire.

 

I certainly hope he at least considers retirement. Slower and less resilient.
And Jack-Yeah, that performance against Bunema was electric.

 

I would suggest he does. I couldn't imagine an even slightly past prime Martinez struggling with Murray & that's meant as no offence to Murray. The guy who destroyed Williams and Dzinzuruk as well as beating Pavlik is simply levels above any other middleweight around at the moment.

Martinez is one the few marquee fighters HBO has left. Unfortunately, for that reason odds were very much against Murray.

No. He has a big payday in him especially now people will see he is there to be beaten.

Nope, favourite fighter is Cotto. I've already agreed the second KD should have counted, but it would have made it a draw IMO.

Regardless, I can score a fight without resorting to my preferences. Murray gave away the first five rounds and the closing rounds. I had it as something like 8-4, plus the KD to give it to Martinez by a point.

I rewatched it this morning and had it by the same margin. I wouldn't have had a problem with the draw or a point for Murray. It was a close fight.
