seryously...is martinez very overrated?

    He should be. But Dibella is already concocting year 4 of the Euro Pastry tour. Already trying out homeless/sanitation workers they have down there. Anything to keep that sham PFP #3 or whatever silly ranking they want to call themselves.

    No, but facing young bigger fighters is taking a toll on him. M.ost guys have easy fights here and there Martinez has been going balls to the wall since the first Williams fight.

    for a guy who started boxing at the age of 20 yo and beat top jrMW and top MW fighters I think he's worthy of the guinness book.

    Now he's old and his reflexes, speed and his body durability are fade away. Murray was the better man but he had to T/K.O Sergio to win this fight in Argentina. And btw , Murray is a top 10 very underrated MW. He also beat Sturm but he got jobbed.

    This. People fail to understand this on these boards. Where people on here worship canelo but Sergio didn't start boxing until 21. To become the lineal champion and having done this well so far for starting so late is amazing.

    Was it career threatening surgery? I thought it was fairly routine surgery. Martinez looks very vulnerable against punchers and I thought he lost last night. He may be approaching the end. I think he could be in trouble against Chavez Jr in a rematch if the latter is focused and committed

    Hes 38 years old and fights with a style that relies on athleticism, exactly how long did people think his form would last?

    Sergio got his 'rating' by years of wins... from 154 to moving up and continuing his reign at middleweight, in which hes had the best reign since Bernard Hopkins ruled the division (much better then Pavliks, and better then Taylors). Hes KO'd Williams, Macklin, Barker, Dz, tore up Pavlik, whooped Chavez and now at 38 years old, coming off surgery, body falling apart, with his abilities obviously fading, and a bad performance with a broken hand against (once again) a undefeated, strong, top 10 middleweight in his prime, now people think hes overrated? :lol:

    His rating and stock has obviously now dropped and will probably reflect where he currently ranks. Im sure he will drop in the p4p rankings, most have GGG and Quillan beating him at this stage, and I think most are seeing things clearly.

    So no, given the new change in the tide of how people are viewing him in his current condition, hes not overrated, and him meeting his natural expiration date as an elite fighter has no bearing on how good he was a few years ago nor that he was overrated at the time.

    A young hungry fighter shows massive balls and no little boxing skills, goes into the champs backyard in front of 50,000 screaming home fans creating a hostile atmosphere and loses a very close/slightly controversial (due to KD) decision.

    And you have basically just dismissed all of the above and put it down to Sergio being shot and can't even be bothered to remember the guys name.!!

    nah, Murray would always be trouble for Martinez, hes just very very big strong and relentless with good D.

    But the Martinez from Pavlik and Dz would win convincingly, probably 8 rounds to 4 or so.

    Imo.

    You know, I want to like Murray, I like what I see from him in terms of his potential but really... hard to become a fan of a guy who lets the biggest fight of his career go in the 12th like he did.

    He should have never let Martinez put him against the ropes like he did. I know he says Martinez hurt him, and that is a huge credit to Sergio he was able to pull that off like he did, and I know it wouldn't have mattered, but really.... would have liked to see more viciousness and will from Murray in those championship rounds in a fight he had to know he wasn't going to win by decision yet could obviously hurt his opponent.

    Nah. Martinez is getting elder. His style isn't a style you can keep replicating due to the energy, movement, and reflexes. Wear and tear. He's still elite. Not sure how you can call him 'overrated'. Cintron, Pwill (arguably won the first one), Pavlik, Chavez. Beat a game Barker and Macklin.

    Coming to the tail end of his career. I think he'll fight another two, then retire.

    He trained in a fcking hotel room to avoid distractions and was coming off surgery. God damn let the 38 yo shake some rust off. People act like Murray is some scrub on here :patsch
