seryously...is martinez very overrated?

or maybe just maybe you could watch Martinez and compare him to other versions of him. When Barker would shell up, Sergio would let off Pacquiao like flurries on him. Sergio could barely put together more than 3 punches at a time in there and that's not normal for him.

Nah Serg aint overrated. Murray tho has the look of a world champion. If your a boxer, pressure fighter, ko puncher, etc any style basically and you got some D you will go far. Murray highly impressed me.

Martinez is just seriously declined. He was never truly great by any means, but he was much better than he is now.

 

he's only overrrated if anyone thinks he's still the same as 3 years ago.

 

Think the only Martinez fight I've missed recently was Dzinziruk.
I don't see a massive amount of difference now to a year ago in Sergio and don't buy into the old overnight/jr ruined him excuses.

Sorry just my opinion and I will always give credit where it is due regardless of wether i like or dislike a certain fighter.

He's always been overrated aroud here imo, I never got the hype with him. He's been riding a hype train since that Paul Wiliams KO. He's a good b-level fighter but nothing special. His record just underlines that - best wins over PW (rematch) and a shot / drunken Kelly Pavlik.

 

Mayweather will still duck him, overrated or not.

 

Martinez is an excellent fighter and deserves big props for that but the words, great, superstar, and atg does not fit in my opinion.:bbb

 

well good for you and I don't want to discredit Murray, but these were observations I was making even in the earlier rounds where Sergio was sweeping them. I was even watching a fight with my friend who's one of Sergio's biggest fans and studies him often saw the same things I saw.

This. He seems to get away with anything though, not just on this forum but also on the Scene, he seriously gets a pass on absolutely anything. Maybe they are homo or something I don't know, the excuses and passes he gets confound me.

 

Fair enough.. I agree with a lot of this, I also noticed and stated Martinez didn't quite look tip top at the weigh-in and at 38 he is probably now finding it harder to get in perfect condition.

I can understand people saying Sergio isn't the fighter he was a few years ago although I personally don't see as bigger difference as some.

What I dont understand is dickheads looking at only the negatives of fighter A so totally discrediting fighter B.

 

Sadly he's getting old. Body is failing, broken hand, knee surgery. Don't forget he was a pro soccer player as well, he's taken a lot of abuse over the years. been in great fights, fought all the best fighters he could get his hands on.

Brought on as a easy fight for Cintron, Martinez has been so fun to watch.. Hate seeing him , knowing how great he was only a couple years ago...

The fighter was young and hungry and (like most of Martinez' opponents) much bigger. He had obviously trained very hard for the fight and was very fit. However, I don't think that he fought all that well. The goods would have removed the decision from the judge's hands.

It's subjective. That you got pissed off shows that I hit a nerve and that you have your doubts as well.

To me, Sergio looked slow, a little flabby around the middle and lacking in stamina compared to the Martinez' I have mentioned in previous posts.

He was coming back from a surgery, etc. Maybe he was just having an off night, whatever... If that was an accurate display of Martinez' game henceforth, I think he's probably done at the top.
