Deontay "Swinging" Wilder

Surely you coulda come up with something better than that

 

As opposed to Tyson "The Technician" Fury ... who uppercuts himself.

Look at the first two rounds of Fury-Cunningham. Guy is a complete joke.

And look back at those "wild" swings by Wilder and you will notice he landed 4 out of 5 before the last two (which Audley slumped under on his way to the canvas).

I saw a fast, incredibly powerful HW throw 9 jabs, keeping his opponent at distance & off-balance, staying outside with his legs & torso in perfect position for a power shot, then scramble his opponents brains at the first safe opportunity, with one of the hardest OH rights in the game.

Then I saw him immediately throw 4 more shots, three of which landed square on Harrison's chin & head.

And then, towering over Harrison who had started to go down, Wilder did exactly what every trainer dreams of: he went into "kill" mode and swung for the fences, something you're supposed to do once your opponent is hurt enough that he's not going to counter.

As far as the knee, it's the ref's job to stop the action. (which he did but a little late, & Wilder then immediately stopped punching.) It is NOT a fighter's job to stop, back up, and look to see if a knee has been taken. (Perhaps you don't understand the rules.)

He's got skills but holy **** he needs to settle the **** down. His Jab is getting better at least.

 

I just re-watched that fight... Wilder looked like a drunken bar patron swing away at A-farce in the corner... LOL.

 

I watched a boxer throw a few jabs without connecting (I know it doesn't matter) back up a guy who just seems to do that naturally to then connect with a good solid punch and then start windmilling instead of continuing to aim which is what he should have done as for someone with 28 fights he is still inexperienced (Very shocked if you don't agree) and as you said Harrison wasn't going to counter.

What I described is likely closer to what he saw than what you did.

 

Watch it again, or get better glasses.

4 out of Wilder's first 5 punches landed flush. It's not exactly hard to see this.

Perhaps windmilling was the wrong choice of word, swinging wildly would describe it better, I can see why instinct might take over but it would have been alot better for him to think a second and land another punch like the one what ****ed Harrison up.

It worked in this fight but alot of better fighters the second he starts swinging would just grab him or actually make it clear that they are taking a knee.

 

:rofl Once he has his opponent hurt, its like somebody aggravated a bee hive and he is trying his best not to get stung.

 

Fraudley Harrison got A bombed out by a top prospect.

 

Why does he need to settle down when he only got wild when he was sure Harrison couldn't return.

 

I disagree, and so did my old coach. And so does every trainer I ever personally talked to over the years.

The idea is, once your opponent is badly hurt, to throw as much power as possible. Chances are good that your opponent will be all closed up, desperately trying to survive. You have to punch right through his arms & gloves. Maximum power and precision do NOT go together, especially if your opponent is on the way to the floor.

How many times have you seen one fighter hurt, and the other guy throws a few "careful" punches but doesn't quite finish him, so the first guy makes it to the bell? - and you're screaming at your TV "finish him! WTF is wrong with you! "

This is never going to happen with Wilder. He has that killer instinct. He closes the show. God help Tyson Fury if they ever meet in the ring.
