Here are mine: Heavyweight: Muhammed Ali Cruiserweight: Evander Holyfield Light Heavyweight: Archie Moore Super Middleweight: Joe Calzaghe Middleweight: Harry Greb Jr Middleweight: Thomas Hearns Welterweight: Sugar Ray Robinson Jr Welterweight: Julio Cesar Chavez Lightweight: Roberto Duran Jr Lightweight: Floyd Mayweather Jr Featherweight: Willie Pep Jr Featherweight: Wilfredo Gomez Bantamweight: Carlos Zarate Jr Bantamweight: Khaosai Galaxy Flyweight: Jimmy Wilde Jr Flyweight: Jung Koo-Chang Strawweight: Ricardo Lopez How about yours? :think
I would pick a bunch of dudes to beat Wilde at fly. At featherweight, Saddler is a bit of a problem for your pick. I'd probably go for Armstrong. I can't pick Greb as being "best" without having seen him. The best i've seen at middleweight is Robinson. Jones at super-middle. Moore is an odd one at light-heavyweight given that Charles beat him there three times and also has a good claim.
Decent list. Give me Ezzard Charles at Light Heavy, RJJ at Super Middle and Tapia at Super Fly instead.
I'll take Monzon, Hagler, and Robinson over Greb at MW. Ezzard edges out Moore at LHW for me. Galaxy is debatable but I don't know who all I'd list at 115 over him. HW I'd take Louis, but obviously it's between him or Ali.
In head to head I agree with you on Roy Jones, but also head to head I would pick Lennox Lewis to beat Muhammed Ali, I'm talking about accomplishments I should of noted. I went for Moore over Charles because I feel the losses to Moore came before he was in his prime because he also lost to fighters with less than stellar records like Henry Hall and Leonard Morrow, the fighter he became later has about 10 wins over the top 30 Light Heavyweights of all-time, won a world title at 36 and held it for nearly 10 years (coming down from Heavyweight to defend it).
In that case Pacquiao and Arguello are more accomplished super featherweights than Mayweather. And I'd say Pryor is a more accomplished jr welterweight than Chavez.
I mentioned why I went Moore over Charles in my last post. In a head to head list I'd have Jones at Super Middle without a doubt. But he didn't stay there for long enough to be ranked over Calzaghe and I believe he only had around 10 fights at 168, with his only meaningful win over James Toney. Super Fly is probably the weakess division of all-time, I went for Galaxy over Tapia because he had 19 wins in world title fights compared to Tapia's 15, and I think the quality of his opponents was a little better as they included 7 world champions all of whom Galaxy beat by KO.
Pacquiao is not at all close in my opinion, and Arguello is only debatable, not definitive by any means. It's all just opinion. No right or wrong.
The other points I've covered in previous posts but regarding Greb, he fought most of his career with one good eye and has wins over 26 Hall of Famers. From what I've rwad his 2 looses to Tiger Flowers should have been wins too
Heavyweight: Muhammed Ali Cruiserweight: Evander Holyfield Light Heavyweight: GodZARD Charles Super Middleweight: Roy Jones Jr. Middleweight: Harry Greb (today) Jr Middleweight: Thomas Hearns Welterweight: Sugar Ray Robinson Jr Welterweight: Oscar De La Hoya Lightweight: Roberto Duran Jr Lightweight: Floyd Mayweather Jr Featherweight: Willie Pep Jr Featherweight: Wilfredo Gomez Bantamweight: Carlos Zarate Jr Bantamweight: Khaosai Galaxy Flyweight: James Wilde Jr Flyweight: Jung Koo-Chang Strawweight: Ricardo Lopez
Yeah but nobody has ever seen him fight. It's all on paper, and your judging him by performances against other guys who were never on tape. And when boxing media was at it's all time smallest and worst (obviously). It would be like me ranking John L. Sullivan as the top HW. I could do it and there wouldn't be much of argument against it, if any, but I'm just not going to go there.
It's all opinion but there are areas of consensus. Life the fact that Marquez + Morales + Barrera > Corrales + Hernandez + Manfredy.
As much as I dislike Mayweather I disagree. Pacquiao only had 8 fights at Jr Lightweight (although they was mainly against top fighters), Arguello would probably be 2nd on the list but Mayweather completely cleaned out the division against top class fighters and none of whom came close to giving him a fight (before anyone mentions Castillo-that was at Lightweight)
D with JMM; lost in at least half of viewers' minds L to Morales Barrera II is not that great of a win. Comparable to Mayweather over Chavez, who was in the top 5 JLW for a couple years before that fight. Far, far lesser than Genaro and Corrales.
