Five good things ESB will be remembered for in 20 years' time:-

    1. Platform for boxing fans to come together, share their passion and learn from each other.
    -------
    2. Transnational Ranking Project
    3. IB's RBR threads
    4. This thread
    -------
    5. The Lounge, which helps us understand why the world is so weird/****ed up.

Matt, you've contributed to 2. and are responsible for 4. That is a major contribution any way you look at it.

I wouldn't stop here. I would look to get a position with a boxing organisation and try to change things from inside at the highest level.

Matt, you have what it takes to change boxing for the better and in doing so, give it a new lease of life. Very few people can say that.

A few things that boxing could benefit from:-

    1. One champ per division - e.g. trough transnational rankings if they become universally accepted and enforcing of mandatory challenger rights, so that the best fighter cannot duck the second best indefinitely just because the money isn't good enough to warrant the risk of fighting him
    2. A way of excluding corrupt judges/referees (points system like they have in football?) (need a universally accepted body to review dodgy decisions, etc.) - couldn't the rankings committee start getting involved in this?
    3. Proper all year-round drug testing (WADA/USADA/Olympic Style) for all world title fights, for all eliminators/mandatory challenger slot fights, and for all fighters in the top 10, paid through a central body that collects funds from every fight (small percentage of net income).
    4. Insurance/retirement fund for all boxers, especially to help those who suffer long-term disability as a result of injuries sustained, or who end up in poverty, etc - some kind of mandatory contribution system - no fighter gets accredited unless he contributes percentage of purse.

    ...

    :good

Not sure whether 'Lucian Bute' is serious now or just a little over excitable....

I'd like to think you could but I think it's a little optimistic to think you're gonna' do it like an 80s Action Hero, single handedly cutting through the shark's of the sweet science wielding an AK-47, spraying everywhere and taking scalps from Don King to Jose Suilaman, before capping off your ascension to the top of the boxing underworld with a primal howl from a cliff top, Richard Schaefer, the last piece of the puzzle, laying 150 feet below you in a sickening heap of flesh, rocks and soil.

Which is sorta' how I envisioned you when 'Lucian Bute' put all his faith in you.

I can see why he would though. You have an aura. You cheeky *****.

De La Hoya and Mayweather are both too high IMO. I think that without 'roids Marquez would lose his two most defining performances and wouldn't rank (Pacquiao III&IV)
