Looking at his camp, it's no wonder Arreola is out of shape. Every person in his corner was overweight and his trainer is especially out of shape. A trainer shouldn't ever be out of shape, I don't think, but ****ing hell.
I was a fan but as far as I'm concerned he's done at the top level. Theres too many heavyweight prospects coming through now, to get away with coming in overweight. He'll still get a few paydays though because he's a name HW.
i agree with this. combined with having your nose broken kinda puts you at a marked disadvantage. he hasnt shown me the ability to put his best foot forward so i don't see how the in ring product will ever be more than it has been for some time.
Outside of the Bros and BS (Love his initials he is a threat to the rest of the Division because it is garbage . . . he still has a chance to pick a trinket some day
Did you happen to catch Fernando Vargas in CA's corner? (I think he was the slimmest dude there... lol)
It always bugs me when folks are so personally insulting to a fighter from behind a keyboard. Or maybe you know the guy? He knocked up ur sis and now he doesn't return her calls? What? On topic: Yeah, Arreola looked pretty clueless in there last night. If he can't do any better than that, maybe he should find another line of work. He showed his big, vato nuts though. Props for that. He wanted to quit when he kept getting punched flush in his already-busted-to-**** nose, you could see it in his eyes. But he didn't. Stiverve, though a little bit thick around the middle himself, looked quick and accurate and kind of slick and with a good chin to boot. Nice to see in this era of slow, plodding heavyweights. Looking forward to more from him. If he gets his stamina together, he might make some noise. He should have KO'd Chris last night and would've if he hadn't gassed.
CA's style and mentality make him fun to watch. I hope he gets a few more decent paydays and then calls it a career and maybe works as a coach or something. That said, if this is the type of shape he's in as a PRO I wonder what he'll balloon up to when he hangs up the gloves?
He is actually only 6'1, but has definitely been between 240-250 in his career. You're right though, you can he heavily muscled and weigh a ton, but be in great shape. Heavily muscled people show as "obese" on the BMI scale, it's hilarious. The premise of his post was that you don't belong in sports being in the atrocious shape that Arreola is in. I'm sure the man does train hard, and spar many hours, I can't figure out why he doesn't care enough to control his diet. He is negating all his hard work... It's the equivalent of owning a dragster, but having a governor that only allows it go up to 100MPH. He is handicapping himself with his obesity, and neutralizing his all his hard work :/
He's becoming a journeyman now. And by the way, all his losses have little to do with his shape. He was simply outclassed (as in, had a lot less talent than his opponents) on each occasion, none more so that against Stiverne. He might be a little bit more skilled than a Chisora or Peter, but that's about it.
It's really ridiculous. Like you said, I'm sure Arreola trains hard as hell with sparring, roadwork, bag work, etc. which means he must eat like an absolute slob to be coming into fights in such disgusting shape. I'd be really curious to see a daily log of what he eats and drinks during training camp.
He is now going to have to take chances and fight top 10 contenders to make it back fighting 4 bums like he has been isn't going to cut it. Well, he will probably still be ranked high by the WBC atsch
