I believe Mayweather has no chance of stopping guerrero.

As great as he is, and I personally think he could stake a claim to be the best ever. I was shocked to see how many on ringtv picked mayweather to KO Guerrero. I think he will win comfortably on points, maybe even uncomfortably, but KO? No way!
Reason being, if Guerrero didn't get stopped by Berto or Aydin, who are murderous punchers who both caught him flush numerous times did not stop him ( I thought one would), how is May weather going to? I was going to say maybe with a Ortiz esque sneaking dragon punch, but Ortiz NEARLY beat the count, and didn't look like getting hurt up to then ( just outclassed), and he was on the canvas numerous times against their common opponent, Berto.
Point simply being, I think a Mayweather KO can be taken outta the equation.

 

Sharp quick slicey punches coming in from angles guerrero probably wont see...Mayweather wont knock him cold, but closer we get to the fight more im leaning to mayweather stopping him on cuts or Guerrero's dad pullin him out cos hes takin a hiding.

I do not think so either. However, Mayweather is the BEST puncher, the sharpest, finds holes in your defence and lands punches you would not think.

Look at how he KO'd Ortiz, standing virtually upright, almost no leverage and he clocked him cold.

Never say never but Mayweather is a very sharp puncher.

He needed 2 free shots for that, so that clearly isn't a good measuringstick.

But I believe Floyd's power is somewhat underrated. He clearly hurt Cotto in their fight, but he isn't the guy to take risks once he's sure the points victory is in the bag.
Because of that he only has 2 KO's (1 by suckerpunch, the other being a Brit ) in the last 7 years.

So I expect him to go safe again even if he hurts Guerrero, and win a 119-109/118-110 kinda decision.

 

I don't think Floyd will stop him either.....Guerrero would have to rush in ala Hatton.

It really depends on how much Guerrero wants the victory....if he is behind and keeps pressing the action he could walk into something big.


But I doubt he will be THAT committed to getting the victory....how many of Floyds opponents keep coming when they are getting a beating? Shane for instance only went in reverse once he was getting beaten up.

 

I hate this theory in boxing.

Boxer A who is considered a harder puncher couldn't stop said boxer, so boxer B who isn't considered a hard puncher won't stop him.

All boxers react differently to different punches from different boxers. All boxers throw punches differently, some more technically correct than others. All boxers throw punches at different speeds with different snap and from different angles.

Being considered the harder puncher with the evidence to back it up does not mean someone who is considered less of a puncher can not stop a boxer the harder punch failed to stop.

I'd say a corner stoppage is more likely, but wouldn't put it past Mayweather catching Guerrero with a sharp uppercut on the way in.

 

I think Mayweather could stop him, if he made an effort to, but it's rare he goes for it because of the inherent risks involved. I think Guerrero is tough enough and game enough to last the distance and won't become so utterly outclassed and beaten that Mayweather can close the distance and tee off at will.

 

I also believe Mayweather will win on points, but then again, stopping Guerrero may not be as far from the realm of possibility as you think.

Remember, a past-it Casamayor managed to drop and hurt Guerrero badly.

And very accurate and clean shot from Mayweather can do wonders.

I'm wondering if Floyd will even be TRYING for a KO.
Do you think it matters to him, at all, or will he be content to just take an easy win?

My guess is the latter, which is why I'm not a huge Floyd fan, despite his gifts.

 

In most fights Floyd has tried to stop his opponent, few boxers who don't have K.O power stop as many opponents as Floyd has.

The only fight I can think where he was quite content to go the distance was the Marquez fight, even if you go back to the Baldomir, despite being considerably outweighed Floyd was painting Carlos with clean shots until he hurt his hand.

Nothing wrong with not being a fan of his but I think its inaccurate to say Floyd doesn't try to stop his opponents.

 

Mayweather doesn't exactly care for stoppages. He looks to outclass his opponent and bank rounds. If a knockout comes it comes, either way he's not going to seek it unless Guerrero got badly hurt.

 

Guerrero is really really tough, so it will be difficult, but I can see Floyd stopping him on accumulation or cuts.
