Anybody know much about him? Can't say I've really heard of him until the McDonnell fight was announced. Only 20 years old, turned pro back in 2009.. nothing too unfamiliar seen as he's Mexican. Look's impressive on paper (24-0, 22 KO's) but we know how misleading that can sometimes be.
Mate nobody cares, these so called fans on here aren't arsed to buy the fight, Muppets. As you said you never really can tell with these Mexicans but Ceja certainly hasn't fought the worst competition going in his 24 starts. His last seven opponents were.. Henry Maldonado 16-1 11KO stopped McDonnells recent opponent Zamora Eden Marquez 26-12-2 20KO Luis Melendez 34-7-1 25KO - Recently went 12 with returning Joseph Agbeko Genaro Garcia 38-9 22KO Went the distance with Hasegawa, stopped in 12 by Nishioka Genaro Camargo 39-13 31KO Cruz Carbajal 32-13-2 Ronald Barrera 30-8-2 19KO Not exactly a murderers row of opponents but certainly not Deontay Wilder style either. I wouldn't be surprised if this kid can really fight. Here's some fight footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[yt]_J5QYLm2wrU[/yt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[yt]mz5HYdS4yDM[/yt]
I haven't watched any footage of him yet, but any fighter that can remain undefeated for over 20 fights on the Mexican circuit must have something about them.
Who's going to pay £11 to watch Jamie McDonnell? Especially on Primetime with poor picture quality, when there's Ricky Burns fighting on the same night on Sky. As for Ceja, based on that clip, looks like he tries to box behind the jab and he can clearly punch. He avoids punches well on the back foot, slipping most shots, but when he throws he's wide open. McDonnell is clearly the better boxer, with Ceja being the bigger puncher. If McDonnell has the power to hold him off, he should be able to win on points, but I think Ceja may be able to get to him, wear him down and stop him late on.
I will, I'm a boxing fan and a fan of McDonnell. Its only 11 quid for ****s sake, you'd swear it was American ppv prices the way some of you are going on. Get behind the lad and support him on his well earned big night.
I was against the idea of the primetime ppv but the fact is i have been looking forward to this fight and i like watching mcdonnell Ive been interested to see how he would get on in genuine world class after watching his last several fights on sky im probaly going to bite the bullet and pay The mexicans cv aint bad but zamora mcdonnells last opponent was a late replacement and far too small for jamie so the reality is jamies best wins are jamoye and stuart hall I think its a fight where jamie has to hit his peak like many brits have on their biggest nights in the past and use the crowd to will him to victory Then he can look at a fight up at superbantam with scott quigg
LOL if this 20 year old was English, he'd be a star... I dont know why anyone would lie to themselves n McDonnell has a chance at winning, this kid will walk through him
Anyone who can KO 22 Mexicans at 20 years old is pretty handy. I Think this may be over quickly. Hope not cos im going to watch it in Doncaster.
McDonnell needs to get his respect early and land some telling hard punches cos if not ceja will walk through him.
Ceja is coming to win and in my view has every chance of doing so if McDonnell isn't at his absolute best, the best that he can be. The two things going for him are the home crowd and the temperature at fight time which will be probably in low single figures. Just for USARobs information, Hobson has put Ceja up at the Crown Hotel in Bawtry and he arrives on the 5th
Check out the boxrec scouting thread for my thoughts. I added him in there, So i rate him a fair bit.
Just looked at one of the his fights on youtube, Ceja looks very good, but not unbeatable, will need a career best performance from McDonnell but with home advantage and a big crowd behind him he might find that extra gear. Just going on that one short fight that I watched, plenty of lateral movement against Ceja would be advised, he closes the ground very quickly.
People saying its only 11quid really? But moan at £15 for a world class fight like Froch-Kessler. No one in there right mind would pay 11quid to watch this when Burns is defending his world title for free at the same time. If it was 4quid and on at the same time as say the rose bill last week I might of considered it
He's trained by Nacho Beristain and boasts an impressive ko record, the kid can bang for sure.If McDonnell doesn't have the tools to outbox him or earn his respect it might be a short night.
