Unless you are a TV attraction or an 'away fighter'/journeyman then What you get paid simply boils down to one question.

"HOW MANY TICKETS CAN YOU SELL?"

Completely different in the states obviously, they don't really care about ticket sales (well recently it seems to have changed with the Barclays Areana and San Antonio show) but most of their money comes from TV.

there was a thread on the training forum a while a go that Brown Bomber (Jeff Thomas) did.

CAreer winner and he said he fought for free on a few occasions. You have to buy the tickets yourself and then sell them. If people don't buy them you fight for free.

People knock prizefighter but its really worth it for the fighters. Adds so much to the guys trying to make it the sport we love.

I heard John Thain was once told by Dean Powell he'd not be paid because he didn't sell enough tickets, it took some convincing for him to receive his pay. I don't know John personally but it came from a pretty reliable source.

How much was Hatton on during his WBU 'reign'?

Money making boxers is mostly down to marketability, look at Haye.

It's mostly how many tickets you sell the more likely you are on the bigger shows.

On 5 live back in March Mike Costello and Bunce were discussing this as they talked about Olympians going pro and how much they would make. During this discussion I’m pretty sure Buncey (could have been Costello)said that Lamont Peterson made about £25,000 for his fight with Holt. This to me did seem low but at the same time these blokes are probably in the know, so think the figures being branded about might be a bit high.

In the region of £450k a pop - some documents came out during his court case with you know who

£900k if I remember rightly for the Tszyu fight - and Tszyu got a LOT more than him, around £2m (my memory permitting)

Dread to think how much him and Floyd made from their fight. A HELL of a lot though.

yeh hatton was getting big money for those fights its in his book he openly puts the figures out.

after realising how much he was getting you can understand why he stuck around at that level for longer than the fans wanted

Hatton made more than Mayweather for that fight because he got something like £10 for every PPV buy over 1million. Mayweather got nothing from Sky Box Office.
