Ok. Sure. A little. But I'm wondering how much of this trend of talking about PBF being past it and shot is agenda driven.
The thing that really makes me think that he could lose at any time is the fact that he has been hurt several times throughout his career. With his declining reflexes that are a huge part of his defense it is quite possible he could get hurt enough to either be knocked out, or go in survival mode. I see shades of Roy Jones Jr. Getting backed into the ropes, getting tagged more, and now saying things about his training he has never said before.
His legs haven't looked the same since the Marquez fight, compared to his prime years he's visibly slower but is still too good for anyone from 140-154. If Floyd carries on for another couple of years I wouldn't be surprised if he loses
Been on a slow decline for a while. Still head and shoulders above the vast majority though. Age can catch a boxer rapidly, but I still see his skillset being too much for everyone at WW.
No agenda. I just think people are ignoring the warning signs. People keep bringing up Cotto, but Ortiz was backing him into the ropes easily and the fight ended to fast for us to see how well he would continue to deal with it. I just hate when people ignore the warning signs then that said fighter loses and all of a sudden they were overrated. Not everyone can be like Bernard Hopkins.
Or I can look at this the other way and say that Michael Jordan was still clearly the best basketball player in the world at the age of 36 when he retired for the last time from the Chicago Bulls in 1998. He's going to be muscled around a bit by people that have 15+ pounds on him. I know he's not the same fighter that he was against Hatton, Oscar or Marquez. I'd be the first one to tell you that is the case. However, he was backing up Ortiz, made Ortiz buckle, backing up Cotto, made Cotto buckle. Not to mention, I think he draws a lot of his opponents to the ropes with the same mission, get them tired, have them flail at Floyd, only to hit air and gloves. That said, SR, the defensive one is here and that is probably the best thing for Floyd going forward. I think Floyd is acutely more aware of his shortcomings than we are. I fully expect a Virtuoso performance.
In the cotto fight but that could be the weight (154 isent good for him) and the fact he fought cottos fight to please fans... Throwing a hell of a lot more punches I think he looked great in the ortiz fight and i got so excited at the beggining of round 4 when he started teeing off on ortiz
He was throwing combos, when did we last see that from Floyd? As far as an athletic peak, those days are past. I think his skill set carries him for the 30 months though.
But thats floyds style. Ndou backed him on the roles and teed off on floyd while floyd parried rolled and dodged 95% of the punches with a smile on his face
He doesn't have the ability to move around the ring as he used to, his legs aren't the same anymore. He actually says this indirectly in one of the episodes of 360, 'When you get older, you have to fight smarter'.
This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected Floyd was bouncing around throwing powerful punches with KO intent in the 12th round of a grueling fight. I would not be worried. When he becomes gun shy like Roy Jones is when you worry. Alot of Roy's athleticism and speed is still there for quite some years after he lost to Tarver, he's afraid to pull the trigger. Floyd still can.
I totally agree. And like Roy, people were surprised by his decline but it was really kinda obvious. He had been lost his legs even when he was beating Ruiz, Woods, etc. up. Same with Floyd. And people are going to be shocked when he loses too but I won't. The signs are kinda obvious. Is Guerrero the one to do it? I don't know. But it's gonna happen REAL soon.
Nah you got it twisted. Roy Jones was always gunshy. What happened as he aged was that he couldn't pull the trigger even when he wanted to.
Nah man, look at the Trinidad fight. Trinidad was there for an easy KO and Roy still wouldnt let his hands go.
