Which super heavyweight with skills did Ali beat? If you want to say Norton and Holmes were big men with skills, Ali should be 1-3. Which good jabbing heavies did Ali beat? Barely Doug Jones, 1-2 vs Norton, barely Jimmy Young, had to come from behind to beat Lyle. Now, Vitali has a longer and harder jab than all of the above.
The 2004 Vitali would beat SOME versions of the Ali that was active. Definitely the 1980 version and maybe the 1978 version. But not the 1974 version.
Vitali could beat Ali on a bad day...Ali had a few fights where he wasnt up to scratch. If you take both on their best day though it is a clear pts victory. Ali isnt an undersized midget, he is quickly and has lot more skills with hands and feet. In 1974 Ali is still good enough.
2004 vitali would beat ali 78 and leon spinks 78 in the same night, and i am not joking. the biased opinions in favour of ali here is just disgusting
The 'biased' opinions in favour of Ali on this thread are considered appraisals on how the Ali of the 1974 timeframe would do against Vitali K. Muhammad was still an awesome fighter at that time. I do agree that the 1978 version would lose to Klitschko - Hands down. Ali had slipped considerably between 1974-78. More so,in my opinion, than he did between 1967 and 1974.
Couldn't agree more with jc. Ali was the master of improvisation and had the ability to find a way to outfox the majority of his foes.
Vitali has a 95,7% win ratio. Vitali by K... But Ali in 74 also had a 95,7% win ratio. ****, this will be a draw.
Vitali is a fighter who would give any heavyweight in history at least tough time, barring am injury or horrible cut in the opening of the fight. There is no such thing as a fighter being able to get an easy decision or stoppage over him.
I do have respect for Vitali and his brother. Far and away the best heavyweights of the post Lennox Lewis era.
Was Ali faster than VItali? Yes Was Ali more skilled than Vitali? Yes Was Ali more durable than Vitali? Yes Did Ali still have the edge in these areas by a WIDE ENOUGH MARGIN by 1974 to overcome the huge desparity in size, reach and Vitali's outside fighting game? Well my answer to the last one is that his work rate would have to be off the charts in order to outland and outpoint Klitschko. And given that the man looked like he was ready to die in the later rounds of some of his fights with Norton and Frazier, I'm not sure that it would pan out to a victory post age 31.
