Wonjongkams opposition was generally pretty woeful. Yeah, longevity wise he was great and he was lineal champ' and he was impressive blasting suckers in the early going (Tunacao is still f'n ranked now) as well as deserving credit for winning back lineal title when his reflexes were gone and he was struggling to make weight.

But in terms of flyweight opposition beaten, I would not feel cofortabke having him near the top end of the pantheon of midgets.

Marcel? Depends how you see Shibata fight IMO. But for me, better on film and better scalps than Pedroza, if not as many. Finished on top; either you see that as a cop out or an achievement, I dunno'.

For me he's just flat out better. And it's not like I ain't a Pedroza fan either :good

Sorry! If I'd seen it I'd have said so.

McGrain is right; there's little between 'em, both have different pro's and cons though and as I now have two days off of work I have the time to make it look pretty :D

Do you think, in hindsight, for a brief couple of months in 1927 -- after defeated Tony Canzoneri -- a case can be made for Bud Taylor being the best fighter in the world?

Greb had died the year before, Tunney was pretty inactive and Taylor already had a slew of excellent scalps to his name.

Thing is, the first fight with Canzoneri was controversial, and he'd had an underwhelming performance just before that (can't remember who but I think it was Goldstein, who was being mocked at the time for being a weak champ' while Taylor was receiving the accolades, disappointing) but he was certainly among the best, no doubt.

Shame it all unravelled for him pretty quickly after winning the title.

McGrain can't remember whether or not you posted in it but where do you sit on Loi/Calzaghe?

Kim was past it, Kameda had Pryor down, Cervantes maybe 70 years old, Arguello x2. Yeah he was clearly brilliant on film.

But not as good as Mike Tyson IMO. Who has similarly past it fighters. But more of 'em, came back and did more than Pryor did (headbut to Bobby Joe Young/beating Bruno again) Arguello I is the best opponent either man has considering what he showed in the bout. Violent domination aside indent think Holmes or Spinks were anywhere near their best on those nights. I do hold the Holmes smashing in higher esteem than most though. Still, the devastation we can see in those, admittedly brief prime years (no hassle when comparing him with Pryor though) we see a fighter we can lend kudos to for ability.

I really cannot be arsed to go into depth even though I know I'm only skimming the surface above but you all know what I mean.

Tyson all the f'n way. I'd have him in tier 1 of this list. Unless you don't have him as your no.8 heavy. Deffo' over Pryor.

Not for me. He was a solid enough champ' IMO, although the came in the wake of a messy title scene. He has some incredible looking scalps of course (Robbo, Webb, Paret in one of the welter vs middle champ bouts, Basilio) but I am just not blown away by the narrative of his ring record. I think he's underrated, and could make it anywhere from 150-170 (that is total bull**** I have no idea where he'd be)

Not taking the **** but discussing the relative merits of Fullmer and Walcott would likely be very interesting. But in the current climate it may look like a well-timed attempt at being a meany.

I think he may have a claim to being higher than Jeffries, but the view of the big man from his contemporaries would see most seeing a bit more to him, nahmsayin' and rank him higher. But Jeff's career is hard to evaluate for me. Johnson>him though. Although I'm glad neither he, Liston, Jeffries or Dempsey are too high up, they're all outside the top ten heavyweights for me and wouldn't figure too highly on an ATG list.

I was thinking of Walcott too because no doubt Kurupt will be in here peer pressuring

And I agree with that, just throwing out names for the sake of discussion. I was having a look at Fullmer, Zale, Graziano....and then you look at guys like Joyce who is Holding (!) and they don't even come close really.

    I don't know, Flea, I don't know. I think that's a bit much what you say...
