Louis is the smaller man who would be very hurt by Holmes his punches. He's also a lot less mobile than Holmes, neither does he have the range or the handspeed to outbox Holmes. Opponents below 215 lbs generally did not survive Holmes, so I'd bet on Holmes by KO.
It's not so much a question about whether Louis could knock Holmes out, but rather would Holmes be coaxed into fighting bravely? It's conceivable that the reserved Larry Holmes who showed up in that first Shavers bout could (not without taking his lumps) sculpt a decision, pumping that left and working the perimeter. Speed, toughness and stamina would get him across the finish line. The problem with this, and it isn't a small one, is that not only was Louis great at getting the opponent to over-commit, to forget the script and begin to fight, but in those moments when Larry lands a good one and invariably sails in, Louis would be poised to make dents. This may lend the fight a certain inconsistency whereby Holmes carefully jabs while Louis shuffles in opposing directions to tempt a collision. Strangely enough, the worst thing Holmes could probably do (especially later on) is hurt Louis because Joe's recuperative powers were deadly, and the rebuttals were awful. Joe may have to attempt this curtain-call through angry swellings - Holmes was far too resourceful not to get deadpan Joe looking grimmer than usual, but then there's this hunch that Larry's minor hang-ups would not escape Louis' microscope, and Joe was rather good at encouraging disaster.
joe louis was clearly the stronger man, he traded blows with much bigger stronger men and harder punchers than holmes. joe louis did not put too much muscle on him, but he had a big frame, louis weighed 207 being drained and he did not have barely musculature, larry holme sin his peak weighed 209-210 and he weighed 188 in his early 20s. joe louis was the stronger man, and larry was a bit taller but certainly not bigger.and louis had clearly faster hands than holmes. louis took shots from max baer, buddy baer, primo carnera, tony galento, all them MUCH harder punchers than holmes , hell no he would not get hurt too much by holmes( and yes, max schmeling had a much harder right hand than holmes)
Holmes takes this.... He would outbox louis to a comfortable UD or late KO... Well unless it's the same judges from the JJW no. 1 fight LOL
yes, all we know that louis was in his prime against walcott, just like holmes was in his prime against tyson
then you should watch fights of both men again, larry had a faster jab, louis had a much faster upper hooks, much faster combinations
Louis didn't have faster hands.. that is kinda silly. You won't see holmes throwing the combinations that Louis did.. because that isn't how he fought. Not only that, it's kinda unfair to say he didn't throw combinations like louis, when frankly, nobody in HW ever has.
This content is protected Ali mimicking Louis after that. Sure is faster than Holmes I see.(I'm sarcastic here) Now compare that "speed" to Holmes. [yt]XwZitkTWhRg[/yt]
actually it is not silly, it is pretty debatable, the silly thing is your comment about louis vs joe walcott because joe was not in his prime at this time
This content is protected Holmes is faster than Louis, also wtf was Schmeling doing? Did he know how to clinch? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSp90BN3PlA Here is the youtube link. Holmes even at 52 had a faster jab than Louis!
and Walcott was? I love when people use that.. oh Louis and Charles weren't prime for Walcott... When they were both still great fighters... and like Walcott was.. Jesus he was older even.
yes , joe frazier was a gorilla and foreman slow like a mummy, your gif is a great proof, you put the slowlest image ever and end of the topic. all that ali said is 100% truth :deal
