Isn't Guerrero pointing out that Floyd has declined, self-deprecation?

'Floyd isn't the same fighter anymore, he's slowed, his legs are gone, I can beat him'

I mean, by saying this (and others have said it about other fighters before a bout with them) isn't it basically an admission that you only have a chance to the supposed deteriorated condition of your opponent? IE they would beat you badly if they were in their 'prime'

Really? So when talking about why you will beat someone, and you say 'because he's gotten old' not something along the lines of 'we have a gameplan for him, we've figured him out' etc etc

It absolutely is self-deprecation. He is stating that the only chance he has to beat Mayweather is due to his decline. In a sense, its also wishful thinking. He also stated something like, "He knows his legs aren't what they used to be. He knows." Basically trying to convince himself that he this is shot. For when he finds out that Mayweather did not slip, if that is what his confidence is built upon, he will start to doubt himself.

 

Not self-depreciation. Maybe it is indirectly, but fans know that fighters square off mentally, before doing so physically, where there is still mental aspects.

I think he's doing it just to build interest. It seems that way when he speaks; there's zero malice, just words coming out as part of his job. I think he has maximum heart so he doesnt need the extra confidence, and I doubt he thinks he can shake Floyd's.

Legs aren't what they used to be but he doesn't have the boxing ability to beat PBF by a decision nor the power to knock him out.
