I think you're a bit confused about what amateur boxing is in the rest of the world.. In many places the top amateurs are more professional than anyone in the pro game, they have the best physios, nutritionists, sports scientists etc. They are often paid and don't have to work either.
Top Cubans and Eastern Europeans often spend their whole careers in the 'amateurs'. To be the best in the amateurs you need to consistently beat top competition, that's something that doesn't happen in the pro game. The amateurs are only used as a stepping stone for youngsters to the pro game in the US, everywhere else it's the pinnacle of the sport, competing for your country.
Lennox and Tyson would've been fine to compete in the 1996 olympics, Tyson wouldn't have got anywhere near a medal and Lennox would've had to have been at the top of his game to win with competition such as young athletic Wlad to compete with.
I honestly can't picture Wlad doing well at age 40 in the olympics. To win gold twice you need to see off another generation of talent coming through, along with the established talent of boxing powerhouses from around the world. Wlad winning another gold would be a far greater achievement than another 5 title defence's against professional bums. I really couldn't see him pulling it off.

Well, pro basketball players have been allowed to go to the Olympics and run the table with amateurs, so I guess this was bound to happen sooner or later.

If Wlad won in 96 when he was totally green and not even a 10th as good as he is now just imagine what he'd do in the amateurs right now.

The amateurs are a perfect match for Wlad, he doesn't have to be as defensive and when he is on full offense you can't really stop the guy.

    This is very true.
In many other countries amateur boxers (and some other sports) also get jobs in law enforcement, militairy etc in wich they only have to work a couple of hours a day or non at all and can use every resource they need.
There are many top notch amateurs who can log much more training hours as low level profs can.
I'm not really agreeing with this though.
If guys like Joshua can snatch the SHW gold in this time and age, 40 yo Wlad certainly can.

Joshua was gifted a medal if we're being honest, The Cuban Savon toyed with him in the opening round and an ageing Camarrelle should've probably got that decision as well. If those games weren't in London then Joshua would've been out in the opening round without a doubt, that Savon decision is one of the worst I've ever seen in am boxing.

If they let Wlad compete then they should have to let literally any other pro fighter under 40 compete, including Ward, Mayweather, etc. Even low-level fighters. It's bull**** otherwise. You either let everyone compete or only amateurs, not just pick and choose popular fighters to allow in. It's the Olympics, not a goddamn invitational. You should have to work your way there.

I had heard that it will only be open to fighters with less than 15 pro fights.

Lol at some amateur beating Wlad btw.

True, he should not of been in the final. De-valued the whole event.

Wlad throwing 10 punches a round will not cut it in the amateur style of fighting with high paced 3 round fights. But this clearly seems like a joke.

Wlad actually threw punches and didn't hold. He holds in the ams like that they will DQ him.

I don't like the idea of pros competing with younger and less experienced boxers, even with bigger gloves and for 3 rounds. It's not like tennis, basketball and football, in boxing they hit each other. Pro boxers have received training focusing on landing hurtful blows, they would have a field day against amateur boxers who throw ineffective combinations with their chin up in the air. I would hate to see an amateur get KO'd by a pro and suffer complications. Your brain is not even fully formed until your early 20's, who wants to see a 16-17 yr old get clocked by a Klitschko right hand?

    The Olympics don't have 16yr olds. 17-40.

    But to answer your question....me.

If they let pros in it could really do a lot to change the amateur style. Who wants to see two 17yr olds doing this :fight ?

Unless they move the Rio olympics to Germany so Wlad can hold his way to a points victory i dont see this happening
