Don't drop jimmy Barry out of the top 150

Joe Choynski (1927) said, “Barry ... I consider the greatest fighter I ever saw. He had everything: speed, science, stamina, ring generalship, courage and uncanny punching power. There were many great bantams in that day, but Barry outclassed them all ...”

    It's not about resumes only.

Carefully managed career with a few good wins and a great looking record doesn't mean one can be rated above one of the most dominant fighters of the last 30 years.

Willingness to face the best must be always considered.

So, for right now, anyone else need to be in the running? We could use some fresh eyes I guess.

Surely step aside money paid to Lennox Lewis, a failure to meet with Riddick Bowe, Don King's manipulation of the rankings, losses, intangibles and professionalism should also be considered?

I think it's close between these two. I accept that Mike is the natural choice though.

Marcel's in there twice. Tier II and holding.

What's the story on Dave Holly? A featherweight/lightweight with a win over Langford and a win over Walcott and draws with Gans. Someone who knows that era in more detail can shed light on him a bit? Is he worth discussing at this point?

Well Holly's prime is defined by that win over Langford and Sam was apparently established enough that he was favoured. SO no pre-prime spit it type win. But his overall record is horrible. I can't remember but it adds up to something like 80-40, 75-35, something of that ilk.

What about Jeff Clark? Much better paper record, also has a win over Sam, also beat Levinsky, Jeanette, Jim Barry, Kid Norfolk...got beat up generally at HW though. I guess probably not?

Dixon's numerical record isn't so hot either and he's floating firmly inside the top 20.

I didn't know the circumstances of the Langford win. If it's totally legit and it was an upset and Sam was pretty much primed, then that's fairly damn monstrous. That's your GOAT he beat. Must have acquitted himself quite well against Gans too, seeing as how he got to fight him so many times.

Anyway, I know little about him other than what can be learned by just skimming over his record. I really don't know where the hell he should rank.

    What about the Walcott win?

EDIT: Clark, ****. I don't know. I don't know that era. Just throwing out some names I've heard on here. :conf

    Not if Larkin doesn't.

I think he could easily make the next bracket though.

Yeah he did. Larkin had that Michael Grant cheen on him. Not a good thing for that era of killers but he still boxed the hell out of Graham and Joyce twice easilllly if I recall.

Jenkins' record is just so spotty. He lost like 12 fights in a row at one point in his career. :-(
