I saw this over at Boxrec and have skimmed through the mans work, I can say I agree with his observation though I'm not familar yet with what he's saying. Anybody else read this? BoxRec thread - http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=163901 THESIS - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4aMZQU006naZUh6TndGUkg3R00/edit?usp=sharing
what is he trying to compare here? it's it basic skill among these smaller men vs the cumbersome big loafs, or is he saying they 'could' beat them, like Wilde beat big 'unskilled' men in the Booths? it's not clear what he's implying.
I've been following his insane writings for over a year - and the man is completely nuts! He has spent 3 decades studying boxing records, and can cite hundreds of examples of older elite boxers defeating younger ones (Schmeling vs Louis, Ali vs Foreman, etc) - which "proves" (in his opinion!) that boxing is in steady decline. This decline takes place at a rate of one division (he only counts the 8 classic divisions) per decade - which means, that (for example) today's best lightweights will beat the best welterweights in 2023, and the best middleweights in 2033. Just like they would lose to the best featherweights from 2003 and the best bantamweights from 1993! This extensive "scientific" research enables him to formulate what he calls The Zivic Mismatch/Overmatch Laws... which makes it possible to accurately (he believes!) predict the outcome of any fantasy match across the generations. Take, for instance, Jimmy wilde, who dominated the flyweights back in the 1910's. Since flyweight is 7 divisions removed from the heavyweights, we can put prime Wilde in a time machine, transport him 7 x 10 years into the future... which lands him in the 1980's, where the prediction is, that he will stop both Holyfield (TKO 12-15) and Tyson (TKO 9-12)!! Just 2 of hundreds of equally crazy predictions. Now all this would of course be great fun, if it was some kind of elaborate joke. But I'm afraid it isn't, and to think he has wasted 3 decades researching this, makes it... well, kind of sad.
I can except that a TOP fighter weighing a mere 125lbs who is both an excellent fighter and in Perfect Shape can beat a Big UNSKILLED, OUT of Shape Big Loaf, we see that on the streets all over the Globe. But NO WAY in hell can the absolute best little guy EVER beat a Tyson or Holyfield... are you sure he's saying that? or is comparing lost skills sets verses todays, and it shows across the board but especially with the Big loafs? :huh
Yes, that's exactly what he's saying! He doesn't say that Wilde could beat a Liston or an Ali, though - because they were both in their primes in the 1960's, and therefore only 5 decades removed from Wilde. So to find a flyweight who could beat Ali and Liston, you would have to go 2 decades further back in time... to the 1890's, where Jimmy Barry was the best little man. And according to the The Zivic Mismatch/Overmatch Laws, he would stop both Ali and Liston in 10-12 rounds! Yes, I know it sounds silly, but I'm not making this up... these are examples he comes up with himself. And he has hundreds of them - one more crazy than the other!
