Great opening post. Foyd showed about 3 or 4 different looks in the fight last night. Robert just wasn't ready for the variety.
Ducking out under a hook is a typical off-the-ropes Mayweather move. Couldn't do it against Cotto because he was too compact with his body and punches. But Guerrero was content to paw away on the outside with little footwork or smother his own work and try to make those little body punches count. Also your point about how the jab works against the opponent's momentum was spot on. Very fencing-like technique.
Great thread. I think he hurt his right hand in round 8 or 9. I wanted to see him threw the straight right hand more down the stretch. He even tried to used it after he injured it, but it weren't as effective as it were in the earlier rounds. I was really surprised and impressed by Floyd's performance. Guerrero basically gave up the fight after his plan A failed.
Lateral movement, it was wonderful to see him use that again. The motion of his body, from his feet, to his hands, to his shoulder and head movement is perfectly synced. Apologies I'm not contributing more, but I'm exhausted, Mayweather didn't kick off until 5am here.
It's amazing how he can just stand in a corner and catch you coming with a straight hand when you least expects him to throw one.
Because he displays no readable rhythm. :good There's usually a give away when a Fighter is going to throw a punch, almost like a preparation process. Mayweather is able to just throw it, in a split second.
The way Mayweather was timing and slipping Guerrero's attempts at counters was a thing of freaking beauty. I loved the subtle ones where he doesn't even move out of doge just pure timing and reflexes and at the age of 36. You see the move when he was against the ropes and baited Guerrero to throw a right hook body shot only to bounce against the ropes and use the ropes momentum as a sling to fire off a right hand all while making Guerrero miss completely while he landed his right. I don't even know if he did it on purpose but that move was crazy.
It was the eighth round. Floyd had his best offensive display this round. His offense was nowhere as vicious after this round
There was one part where Floyd even threw a check right hook.:nut He gave the illusion of being vulnerable near the corner then pops Guerrero with an ultra short right. Possibly the most versatile right hand of all time
Because it's not so much a processed thought anymore, as opposed to an instinctive throw. Eyes see gap, body throws punch. No need for a thought process the rest of us would have 'Ahh his hands are down, throw the right!' At 36, he's incredible.
