    Gentlemen,

Please educate me on how Floyd's legacy stacks up against other all-time greats. Many rank him in the top 25 of all-time. Does his legacy compare with other guys in the top 25 of all-time?

    * I checked and I didn't see a general thread on Mayweather's legacy compared with other top guys, if there is one, I apologize for duplication.

I have him a little lower than that, 30-35 purely due to a lack of a real challenge through out his career. He misses that great rival. The Frazier to Ali, the Hearns, Hagler and Duran that Leonard was both blessed and cursed with.

I always thought he'd of beaten Pacquaio, and that one signiture win would of pushed him RIGHT up the ATG rankings IMO.

Take a look at the Top 30 from McGrain's list:
    01 - Sam Langford
    02 - Harry Greb
    03 - Sugar Ray Robinson
    04 - Henry Armstrong
    05 - Ezzard Charles
    06 - Bob Fitzsimmons
    07 - Muhammad Ali
    08 - Joe Gans
    09 - Joe Louis
    10 - Roberto Duran.
    11 - Benny Leonard
    12 - Mickey Walker
    13 - Willie Pep
    14 - Barney Ross
    15 - Archie Moore
    16 - Ray Leonard
    17 - George Dixon
    18 - Terry McGovern
    19 - Packey McFarland
    20 - Pernell Whitaker
    21 - Tony Canzoneri
    22 - Jimmy McLarnin
    23 - Sandy Saddler
    24 - Stanley Ketchel
    25 - Charley Burley
    26 - Holman Williams
    27 - Billy Conn
    28 - Gene Tunney
    29 - Roy Jones
    30 - Joe Walcott
    31 - Carlos Monzon

I said earlier, if Mayweather's resume had:
    W Pacquiao
    W Margarito
    W Williams
    W Forrest
    W Mosley (Prime)
added to his current resume, he'd be 25th ish. No lower.

Looking at the list that's been compiled, I'd personally have Floyd somewhere around 40, somewhere next to guys like Hagler and Chavez.

I think the biggest issue there is with Mayweather record is he doesn't have that signature win you can point too. I think he has a strong body of work, against decent level of fighters over a lengthy period of time and different weight classes, but there's nothing outstanding on there. It's a good record to show he has beat many different contenders, but without that top level win or two, it weakens his case.

The frustration is that the fight was out there, in Pacquaio and it wasn't made, and it does hurt his legacy for me. He needs to find that signature win before he retires, im not sure what it will be now. Canelo maybe, but I'm not sure he will do enough in his career going forward to get to that top level. Win the middleweight title perhaps, I think he could take Martinez and even if its a faded Martinez being the lineal middleweight title holder would be some achievement.

At times to be truly great you need to dare to be great and take those fights where you are out of your comfort zone. Floyd hasn't as yet done that and it does reflect back on his record poorly due to this. Love watching him and his skills and I hope he challenges himself more before he retires. I'd struggle to give a fair ranking of him now, think Mayweather a fighter that will need to be evaluated properly a few years after he retires.

Would have been better had he beaten tzsyu at 140. Then his championship claim at the weight would be more legit.

Had he beaten cotto and Marg instead of retiring and then Pac after Mosley we'd be talking about a top 15 guy imo.

As it is I'd put him round about the 30 mark. I will one day rank a top 100 but I don't feel I know enough just yet.

Don't have any kind of list but I think I have him lower than most. Amazing talent and consistency and some good wins, but far too many holes to have him among the top top guys imo.

The thing with Tszyu is he was inactive as **** when Floyd got there. Then he basically sold out his title to Hatton and retired. Very disappointing.

Around 30 seems reasonable. Definitely lacking that signature win, but then such a collection of masterclasses (masterclasses, not mere wins) over capable opponents is starting to weigh-in nicely.

44 fights isn't many, but there's zero gristle on that record.

The Pacquiao fall-through was horrible, and a fight with Alvarez can't repair that, but victory against Saul would put some serious pressure on the sceptics to cease that protest about cherry-picking.

And if Floyd gets that Grade A win he really needs, all that B+ work will inherit its sunshine.

And that is the worst thing. These fights had opportunity there tzsyu was inactive and Floyd fought brusseles. There was space for the fight, just as there was space for the cotto, margarito and Pacman fights.

Floyd says he has 5 fights left and I imagine every one will be a big name fight. Probably Alexander, Broner, Bradley, Khan and Brook plus hopefully canelo.

Floyd is a great talent and I do feel he slightly under achieved.
