NO... When I watched it live I thought Maybe it was.. Then when I saw the replay it was the right call. Ponce ate like 10 or 11 unanswered shots in a row. Good call by Nady

I think it was bit premature.

But its expecting from Nady probably the most inconsistent ref in boxing he either stops fights too soon like last night or lets them go for too long like in the Tito-Vargas fight.

I don't think so. He was getting cracked on the jaw by some huge shots. Even though he was throwing back a little he was in no position to defend and a few more big rights on those ropes could have put him to sleep. Nady made an emotional decision and I thought he was about to stop it.

I think De Leon had managed to weather the storm and got past the worst of it, problem was it looked like his head cleared at the moment the referee called it off, looks like a bad stoppage but in all reality the ref began to step in after he took one thunderous shot that cracked his head back, i doubt Jay Nady was expecting De Leon to be in any position to throw back after that shot so promptly stepped in.

It was a bit premature but Mares woulda kept swinging until a big one landed, Ponce did the dumb thing and traded back which means he got caught by some big flush shots he woulda carried on trading until he eventually got dropped

  6. Yes, although Mares probably would have finished him eventually it was way too early. Stoppages like that are only acceptable in prospect vs journey fights. You don't take away a mans championship like that.

Don't want to take anything away from Mares, but it was a horrible stoppage.

He didn't answer at least 18- 20 punches and the knockdown was severe, it was the right call.

Sure was... but that's typical of Nady. He either stops it too late or too early. Never on time.

That is the thing too making it much worse, in most cases a Champion is given every chance to fight out and keep his belt. :deal

That was some ol' doo-doo right there :!:

It was stopped a bit early. He was taking shots, but he was still there.
